Pocket Guide: Niagara Falls, USA Niagara Falls Intl. Hotels

Niagara Falls International Airport Hotels

Niagara Falls International Airport is to the north of Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard) around four miles east of the city of Niagara Falls in New York State.

The airport dates to 1928, when four stone runways paved the way towards the first terminal building, which opened in 1935. Buffalo-based aviation company Bell Aerospace took up residence at the airport, and went on to develop the world’s first civilian-use helicopter in 1941 and the first super sonic plane, the Bell X-1, in 1947.

Niagara Falls International Airport entered an active military phase during World War II and a joint-use agreement with the United States Air Force is still in use. International flights were approved in 1965, and after several runway-lengthening works over the past few decades, NFIA is now able to accommodate the largest aircraft flying today.

Passenger Services and Facilities at Niagara Falls International Airport

A new two-storey, four-gate terminal building opened in 2009. Inside the terminal, facilities include complimentary WiFi and a food concession open two hours prior to departures, serving a mix of deli sandwiches, bagels, pizza and pastries.

On-site parking includes both short- and long-stay lots, plus a separate mobile-phone car park for those waiting to pick up passengers, and two further car parks for oversized vehicles. You can also charge an electric vehicle free of charge at one of two charging stations.

Getting to Niagara Falls International Airport

Limousine services, taxis and major rental car companies are available at the Niagara Falls International Airport. Nearby public transport options include the Amtrak train station in downtown Niagara Falls which serves as the final stop on the Empire line from New York City, and a through-stop on the Maple Leaf line between New York City and Toronto.

The NFTA-Metro public transportation company also serves both Erie and Niagara Counties, and the Gray Line bus company provides Niagara Falls tours, charter services, and transfers to other airports in the region such as Toronto Pearson International and Buffalo.
