FAV LUX KAGOSHIMA TENMONKAN

10/10 Excellent

"We booked a queen shower room, non smoking. This is a fairly new hotel the room we had was great and had a small writing desk. It is in a good quiet location and there are plenty of restaurants near by. It is a 10 minute walk from the tram stop & airport bus stop which was extremely convenient for us as we here flying out from Kagoshima to Osaka. Breakfast is on the top floor as is the reception area. The view from the top is wonderful with the volcano in the background. The highlight for us was the breakfast as you have a three choices to choose from which they bring over to your table, we had smoked salmon with poached eggs and toast with avocado, this was a welcome change from the buffets breakfast we had in all the other hotels during our six week holiday. There was great music playing in the background which added to the really pleasant ambiance. The young chef lady and waitress were absolutely delightful. I would definitively stay at this hotel again."

JR KYUSHU HOTEL Kagoshima

8/10 Good

"Recently stayed 2 nights at the JR Kyushu Kagoshima. Check in/check out all friendly and efficient. The location is amazing. You don’t even have to go outside the station to access the hotel reception. Amazing. The staff were welcoming in saying hello everytime you either left or returned to the hotel. Great to see. Room was adequate for 3 people, but a little small for 3 large suitcases. Shower was good. The reason I’m not giving this hotel a full score is because of the pillows. I’m sorry, but the pillows were so hard it was like laying on a rock. Not sure what those beads in the pillows are but it really made both nights hard to get any sleep. Sorry, but I had to mention it. But overall, the location can’t be beat, the staff are very friendly and the price is very good for the type of room you get."

ART HOTEL Kagoshima

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel has a beautiful waterfront view. The room we stayed was a bit old but spacious and had a table snd chairs which was very convenient for eating. There were 2 convenience stores and Bento (take away food) shop in front of the hotel. There is a bus stop to go to CBD in 5mins walk. A Bus takes 20-30-mins to CBD, only 230yen (like $2) and a taxi takes 10-15 mins less than 2000yen (like $20). The breakfast buffet was great, a lot of good choices and friendly staff, Tanimura san was very friendly and looked after us very well. We appreciate their hospitality. Overall it’s a good hotel in a quiet area with friendly staff."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nagasato?

The best area to stay in Nagasato is generally around the ferry port area for convenience and access to local amenities.

This area, particularly near the Nagasato Port in the south, serves as the main entry point to the island and offers the most accessible facilities. You'll find the island's limited selection of eateries and shops concentrated here, making it a practical base for exploring. The main road, Prefectural Route 542, runs through this vicinity.

For families, staying close to Nagasato Port offers the most convenience. With children, being near the ferry arrival point minimises travel time after a journey.

When is the best time to go to Nagasato?

The best time to go to Nagasato is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months, when the weather is most pleasant for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Spring in Nagasato brings mild temperatures and clear skies, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. This is when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, particularly beautiful around the local parks and along the riverbanks, offering picturesque scenery for leisurely strolls or photography.

Autumn also offers wonderful conditions, with comfortable temperatures and less humidity than the summer. The foliage transforms into brilliant shades of red and gold, especially noticeable in the forested areas and around the various shrines and temples.
