"Room was quite small but very well equiped, everything worked and there was a bottle of chilled water in the fridge which was very much appreciated. Pool looked nice (didn't use it but several people did), not much in the way of a garden, small but well stocked bar. Restauarant was superb, really enjoyed our meal. Breakfast was very good, plenty of selection and good coffee from the machine. Hotel was very easy to find."

Hôtel du Canal

8/10 Good

"Room was clean, quite basic but fine for our one night stay, great location 5mins from train station & walkable into town and canal. No frills but clean & nice bathroom. Bed was comfortable."

Chateau de Roquefoulet

10/10 Excellent

"What a gorgeous stay at a beautiful chateau. We had the most peaceful stay here - very welcoming staff who were so friendly. We felt incredibly special and well looked after, and cooked for. The air conditioning and cool room were so well appreciated in the heat wave. The property is gorgeous, quiet and so relaxing. It was a perfect stop off on our trip."

Best Western Grand Hotel de Castres

10/10 Excellent

"We had a great stay. The staff were all quite helpful and very kind. Our room was beautiful and a perfect location, right near the center plaza in Castres. We felt so comfortable in the hotel we made full use of the amenities: afternoon drinks on the terrace, evening meal in the restaurant, and breakfast the next day. All excellent. I highly recommend the Grand Hotel."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Montgey?

The best area to stay in Montgey is within the village itself for a traditional French countryside experience.

Montgey is a small, elevated village in the Occitanie region, known for its historic château and panoramic views of the surrounding Lanta hills and sunflower fields. The village centre is compact, with a few local amenities and characterful stone buildings. It's an ideal spot for those seeking a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle.

Couples looking for a romantic and quiet escape will find Montgey particularly appealing. The area offers opportunities for leisurely walks through the picturesque countryside, exploring local vineyards, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The village provides a genuine taste of rural French life, with opportunities to enjoy local produce and regional specialities.

For families with older children who appreciate nature and history, staying in Montgey offers a good base for exploring the wider region.

When is the best time to go to Montgey?

The best time to visit Montgey is typically during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are fewer.

During late spring, the countryside is lush and green, and the temperatures are comfortably warm, usually ranging from 18°C to 25°C. This is an ideal time for leisurely walks or cycling through the rolling hills and sunflower fields that characterise the Occitanie region. The local markets are also beginning to offer a wider selection of fresh produce.

Early autumn brings mild temperatures, often between 15°C and 22°C, and the landscape takes on beautiful golden and russet hues. This period is superb for exploring the local vineyards and enjoying the harvest season, often with fewer tourists than in the peak summer months. It's also a good time for visiting nearby historical sites without the intense heat.

While summer (July and August) offers the warmest weather, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, it's also the busiest time for tourism, especially in the wider Occitanie region.
