We have visited Penzance on many day trips during summer months and often thought it may be nice to visit 'out of season'. Additionally we have always felt that The Dolphin looks a nice place to stay, with an excellent location by the harbour. We travelled down on the overnight train from Paddington (an experience in itself), and was not disappointed with our choice of The Dolphin to stay. The weather was kind to us, and we had three lovely days in and around Penzance.

A short but memorable stay for all the right reasons! Originally had booked for one night, but liked so much that we extended our stay. On arrival were given a tour of the facilities and shown to room. The room was large, modern, bright and of a lovely standard. As a premium room it included extra touches like a coffee machine. Very comfortable bed, good shower and soft carpet.
Breakfast was yummy and kept us going until dinner!

Wow, where do I begin? Sancreed house is truly beautiful. Grove & Pablo have put so much in to making the space wonderful - even down to the scent! Everything has been so well thought through. The room itself was stunning. Somewhere you could completely unwind. Everything you could need was provided - plenty of space for belongings, a small fridge, tea and coffee, a hairdryer and even some slippers which were a lovely touch. Looking out on to the gardens whilst having breakfast each morning was...

Had a lovely stay in the loft! The views were fantastic, and the location was amazing—perfectly situated with easy access to other areas. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Lovely historic hotel in a beautiful location. Only down side was their food was slow to arrive, though cannot complain about the meal. Their waiters were very apologetic as they were short staffed in their kitchen , hence delay. We made the mistake of using our sat nav to find the hotel and arrived by the rear entrance, which is easily missed, so ensure you follow hotel signs for Limpley Stoke Hotel. Would stay again if in area.

The best area to stay in Madron is within the village itself for a traditional Cornish experience, or just outside in the surrounding countryside for a peaceful retreat.
Madron village offers a quintessential Cornish feel. It's a small, historic village with a central church and a few local amenities. The houses are typically stone-built, and the lanes are narrow. This area is ideal for those who appreciate a quiet, authentic village setting.
Couples looking for a romantic escape will find the village charming. You can enjoy strolls through the village, visit the ancient Madron Well and Baptistry, and take advantage of the nearby footpaths leading to scenic viewpoints. It's a great base for exploring the wild beauty of West Cornwall, including easy access to the coast path.
For families, staying in one of the larger holiday cottages or farm stays just outside the village can be a great option. These often provide more space, gardens for children to play in, and a very quiet environment.
When is the best time to go to Madron?
The best time to go to Madron is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally at its finest.
During these months, you'll experience longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the Cornish coast and countryside. This period offers the best conditions for outdoor activities like walking the South West Coast Path, visiting nearby beaches, and enjoying the numerous gardens and historical sites. You'll find most local attractions, pubs, and restaurants operating at their full capacity.
For those who prefer a quieter experience with pleasant weather, May and June are particularly good. The wildflowers are in full bloom, and while popular, the area isn't as busy as the peak school holiday weeks in July and August. This makes it a great time for couples seeking a peaceful escape with opportunities for scenic walks and leisurely meals.
Families often find July and August to be the most convenient for travel, aligning with school holidays. While it's the busiest time, the warm weather is great for beach days, and there are many family-friendly activities available. Booking accommodation and popular attractions well in advance is advisable during this period to ensure the best options.
