One of the smaller resorts in the Vaudois Alps area, Leysin Ski Resort sits above the town of Aigle and has a range of pistes best suited to beginner and intermediate skiers.
With views of the Rhone Valley, Leysin is a fairly traditional Swiss ski resort which, although slightly spread out, is easy to get around using the narrow-gauge railway line, which runs from the slopes to the valley town of Aigle. Leysin’s 37 miles of varied ski runs offer a mix of forested lower slopes and a dedicated nursery slope, as well as a good number of fast wide runs and two black runs for the more experienced skier.
Leysin Ski Resort hotels are in the village, with most just a few minutes’ walk away from the Aigle-to-Leysin railway line or the Leysin-to-Berneuse ski lift. Use Expedia to browse the accommodation, which mostly consists of mid-range two- and three-star places to stay.
Leysin’s hotels differ widely in style. Some are traditional, with timber exteriors, flower boxes and pine-clad interiors, while others are set in more contemporary buildings and offer modern apartment-style accommodation with kitchenettes, living and dining areas, and the all-important ski storage and launderettes.
At the luxury end of the market, you can expect complimentary on-site parking and shuttle buses, cosy lounges, coffee shops and cafes, and al fresco terraces with bars for apres-ski drinking and dining.
There are plenty of other reasons to visit Leysin besides skiing. In the summer, families can enjoy cheese-making, horse-riding and mini-golf, and there are several well-equipped playgrounds and picnic areas in and around the village. Also nearby is the revolving restaurant at the top of Berneuse peak, which specialises in fondue dishes, rosti and regional specialities.
All in all, Leysin Ski Resort makes a great base for a summer or winter visit, so use Expedia to narrow down your hotel choices and find the perfect base.
