"Unexpected oasis of old world charm near to Lake "
This old locanda apparently used to be a small village, though sadly most of the inhabitants have left. The rooms remain large and lofty, the restaurant provides a good repast, and there is a sense of having drifted in to a parallel universe that time forgot. If you are relaxed and in no hurry, this is quite a special experience, distinctly different from the machine organisation of the modern hotel.

Pocket Guide: Lake Maggiore Romantik Hotels

    The Romantik Hotels Brand

A couple of hundred hotels in ten European countries make up the luxury Romantik Hotels group. While each Romantik Hotel is independently run, they all follow the Romantik Hotels ethos of providing warm hospitality in a luxurious and traditional setting. Choose from historic country houses on large estates to chic boutique hotels in the middle of the city or tranquil guesthouses in the mountains.

Stay in a Romantik Hotel in Lake Maggiore

Immerse yourself in Italian history in a Romantik Hotel in the Lake Maggiore region. Old-world elegance is an important feature of Lake Maggiore, which recalls the golden age of travel. Choose a hotel in a historic building where you can take in the glorious views of the countryside.

What to Do near Lake Maggiore

From your Romantik hotel, stroll along the wide waterfront promenade in Stresa, where you can stop in one of the many cafe terraces by the lake. From here you can take the ferry to the Borromean islands and visit the delightful villas and lavish gardens in Isola Madre and Isola Bella. There’s another outlandish garden to explore in Villa Taranto in Verbania, which was created by a Scottish captain and is one of Lake Maggiore loveliest botanical gardens.

If you want to relax, check out the beach clubs in Stresa, including Loco Beach and Lido Blu. There’s a sandy beach at Feriolo, and behind the nearby Fondo Toce nature reserve is the small lake of Mergozzo, where there’s swimming as well as a golf course.

For some windsurfing kitesurfing, head further north towards the Swiss border, where the town of Cannobio has excellent facilities for water sports. On the eastern shore, ease into a sun lounger on the beaches at Ranco near the Parco del Golfo della Quassa, as well as the sandy beach at Ispra.

Also on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore is the dramatic Medieval fortress, which stands guard over the town of Angera. It’s an unusual setting for its enchanting collection of antique toys and dolls, but very worth a visit. Climb to the top of the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the lake before returning to your Romantik hotel .
