Relais & Chateaux Hotels was created in 1954, when eight hoteliers came up with idea of charting La Route du Bonheur (the road to happiness) on the road from Paris to Nice. In Stresa, you can take the ferry to the Borromean islands, a delightful archipelago with lavish villas and their equally ornate landscaped gardens.

Chill out on one of the many beaches around Lake Maggiore and nearby lakes, maybe Orta, Varese or Mergozzo. Pull up a sun lounger at one of the beach clubs in Stresa – Loco Beach and Lido Blu. Hire an electric bike if you want to explore the area at a less strenuous pace.
