Nice area in walking distance to Kyoto Station and a really nice park where the Aquarium is. One thing we weren't happy with was that we booked a room advertised to have 2 single beds and 2 futons which I confirmed again with the hotel prior to our stay. When we arrived there were only the 2 single beds. We were told that the futons are only included for free to accomodate guests over 5 yrs old and since our child is 2 they made us pay extra to have a futon in the room. The hotel staff were friendly and spoke english very well, communication was easy. The neighborhood was quiet and charming, a short walk away from To-ji Temple and Umekoji park. Beds were comfortable, much more so than other hotels we stayed at. The room and bathroom were spacious. The only downside to the quiet neighborhood setting was it is a slightly longer walk to Kyoto station or restuarants and shops (Aeon mall is not far). It's about an 8-10 minute walk from Kyoto station, making it convenient if you're planning on doing day trips. The staff are very kind and helpful, and you can tell they've made it very easy for English-speaking travellers to use the facilities. My room, a twin double, was very spacious, the bathroom was really generously sized (especially for Japan), and overall a very pleasant hotel.
