8/10
The cottage is very old fashioned, having said that it's comfortable and facilities are good. Landlord should do something about the horrendous smell of damp that pervades the house coming from the passageway between house and garage. It really is awful, can be kept to a minimum by keeping the kitchen door shut at all times. We had some beautiful weather and it's a shame the garden was a bit overgrown, it could be a lovely feature if there was a nice dining area out there. Cooking facilities adequate, lots of pots and pans, dishwasher and washer dryer which were very useful. For those who don't know the area, portinscale is about a 25 minute walk into Keswick, there are no shops in the village although there is a good pub and cafe. The second bedroom has twin beds and a set of bunks, had all my boys in there and worked out fine. All in all you get what you pay for, and this really could do with some updating but the reduced price made it worthwhile for us. I'd consider staying there again, but that rancid damp smell would really put me off.
