The most affordable time to visit Ithaca, New York, is generally in the off-season, particularly during the late autumn and winter months, from November through February. You'll find the lowest lodging costs and cheaper overall travel, including flights, especially in January. For example, hotel prices are often at their lowest in December, January, and February, with some sources highlighting January as the single best budget window.

During these months, the weather can be quite cold, with average temperatures often dipping below 0°C, and snowfall is common. You'll experience fewer crowds at popular spots like the Johnson Museum of Art or the Sciencenter, allowing for a more relaxed and intimate visit.

For those looking for a slightly milder experience while still benefiting from good value, November can be an excellent alternative. While still part of the cheaper travel window, the weather is often less severe than in the heart of winter, with temperatures typically ranging from 0°C to 7°C. You might catch the tail end of autumn colours, and while some outdoor activities might be winding down, you'll find the city's cafes and restaurants welcoming, offering a more local feel before the peak tourist seasons.
