The Grand Hotel Eastbourne

8/10 Good

"Stayed at the Grand many times. This time we felt things weren’t to the usual standard. Close to our room the area was being decorated. There were signs apologising but we did wonder, given that the hotel didn’t appear to be ‘to capacity’ why we couldn’t be in an area not being decorated. We were also never far from the noise of pigeons in our room which wasn’t great. At breakfast, we are usually asked if we want anything over and above the buffet. This time, no one did that or indeed offered us toast. This was odd because again, at no point was there a sense that the hotel was full. When we went to the bar area for a drink there was a delay before anyone asked us what we’d like. At the same time staff were huddled at the bar chatting. All in all, we felt the service wasn’t all it used to be. We hope that next time we stay, service will be the usual level of excellence."

"Everything about this accommodation is excellent and great value. I can’t fault a thing. The staff were exceptional. They were cheerful, polite and very welcoming."

Flackley Ash Country House Hotel

"Very friendly atmosphere and lovely staff who were happy and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Superior double room was clean and spacious and bathroom was pristine and up to date. It would have been nice to be able to open the fixed net curtains to have a proper view of the garden outside our room but this is a small personal niggle. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Overall, a lovely location for a weekend visiting Rye and its surroundings and I would stay here again."

"We stayed one night so it’s hard to judge. It was fine for what we wanted. The staff were polite and obliging. The breakfast was very good. Value for money ( the bathroom was small)"

The Burlington Hotel

"We have just come home after a 4 night stay at The Burlington. On our arrival my friend and I were a bit worried as the hotel looks a bit run down from the outside. Once we were inside, we were pleasantly surprised. We had an excellent welcome from the reception staff and the lounge and bar area's are bright and clean. Our rooms were also comfortable and clean. The breakfasts had a good selection of food and there was a good choice for the evening meals. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and felt it was good value for how much we paid."

The Ship Inn

"My initial impression wasn’t great. The hotel part was really in need of a good lick of paint and a new carpet. That said, it is a very old building so some allowances should be made. The bed in the room was very comfortable with fresh white linen and fluffy pillows. The bathroom was tiny but modern and clean. The staff was nice and very welcoming of my little dog. The bar is stylishly decorated in keeping with its age but with a modern edge. As a solo traveller I didn’t fancy staying up late in the bar and found the staff were very accommodating when I asked to take a glass of wine to my room. I was then able to relax on the bed and watch the massive TV (England v Croatia FIFA World Cup). I was given a key to the main door which was great for late night and early morning dog wees. Breakfast was delicious (Eggs Royale)"

"Lovely Hotel with friendly staff and good food. However, restaurant staff need more training as several times mistakes were made with our food and drink orders. Get this done and we would have given top marks. We did enjoy our three days break."
