The Manor House At Celtic Manor

10/10 Excellent

"What an absolute surprise, we were expecting a small bijou manor house but it was actually part of the main complex. The whole site is pristine and the receptionist staff were amazing throughout. Our rooms were beautiful and the walk to the main building for breakfast was really interesting and merged together the two styles of antique versus modern. The bedrooms were immaculately cleaned and were perfectly cool.. the Elemis toiletries were a real treat! Breakfast was a marathon with so much choice.. it was a huge feast and the service from staff was friendly, welcoming and so helpful. We booked for B&B so we could attend our son's graduation at the ICC. Sadly we only booked for 1 night. We had such an amazing time and were treated like royalty we are definitely going to book a return visit. Highly, highly recommended. 😀"

"Best hotel I've stayed at in the UK. Room was very modern and clean, staff were all lovely in both the hotel and diner and the added touches like filter water, teas and the high quality hairdryer and straightener in the rooms were a real bonus. A small fridge in the room for drinks etc would have been nice but not a deal breaker. We'll definitely be back."

The Coach & Horses Hotel

"Lovely clean rooms set in a lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings. Carpark had plenty of space. The pub/restaurant was fantastic. One of the best steaks I’ve had. I was impressed by the wine list as it had plenty of choice of fantastic wines. Only downside was they stopped serving drinks at 10pm. Much too early to shut shop after you’ve been in the restaurant all evening. Other than that, we were satisfied."

"Although the food arrived tapas style (they were clearly cooking one dish at a time) it was surprisingly good with generous portions and got a thumbs up from kids and parents alike. The air con no longer works in the rooms, but they were clean, functional and in good condition and cool in spite of the heatwave! If you're looking for somewhere on the M5, it ticks most boxes. Would I stay there again? Yes."

"As I have an immune disorder which means there are certain foods I can't eat I am always cautious when staying at a place for the first time, I have to say I had no reason to be as the staff were very reassuring and helpful, pointing out any possible triggers and reassuring me that what I eat was safe The room was clean as in hoovering, dusting and cleaning the bathroom but there were a couple of issues like skirting boards could do with a clean along with the windows in fact when the sun was on a certain angle you could see where someone had doodled on the window, nothing rude btw :-)"

"Nice basic place to stay. It's a pity there is no vending machines for snacks and drinks or even ice. It was quiet during the night. Shower was very good. I stayed when we were having a heatwave so the room was extremely warm day and night. The fan provided did help thank you"

Tanes Hotel

"This is not a glamorous destination hotel, but it is an immaculate and welcoming haven for travellers to Cardiff, and the perfect option for my daughter and I while we packed up and cleaned her student accommodation. The beds were very comfortable and the secure parking, locked from 10 pm to 7 am, meant that we could load up the car and park at the hotel, without extra charge (£25/night at most central hotels but complimentary for Tanes residents) the night before leaving without worrying about security. Btw, big up to the Sparrow Coffee House round the corner on Four Elms Road for an excellent start to our day with a warm greeting, coffee and danish pastries. Overall, the Tanes Hotel was excellent value for our needs. Note to US visitors from an ex-NY resident: walking 30+ mins in the EU is normal to access local amenities. The Tanes is at least a 15 min walk from the city’s excellent pubs and restaurants and well worth the exercise. Alternatively there are plenty of local taxi/Uber services which afford the experience of meeting local colourful characters while en route - the Welsh love a chat. Embrace the cultural difference - you might even have fun! Croeso i gymru! X"
