"We had the most wonderful stay at Cartmel Old Grammar Country House and cannot recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the fabulous owners, Lauren and Greg, whose passion and care for this historic gem shine through in every thoughtful detail. The rooms were beautifully appointed—comfortable, stylish, and full of character. Every space radiated charm and tranquillity. The food was absolutely delicious—thoughtfully prepared, locally inspired, and served with genuine warmth. Special thanks to Connor and Esther, who were attentive, friendly, and made us feel like old friends. Their hospitality added so much to our experience. Evenings were especially magical—sipping cocktails at sunset on the terrace, followed by nightcaps in the cosy Whisky Room, made for the perfect end to each day. The location is also fantastic—peaceful and scenic, yet just a short stroll from the heart of Cartmel village, including the world-class Michelin-starred restaurants, L’Enclume and Rogan & Co. It truly is the best of all worlds. The serene ambience of the house, the incredible hospitality, and the charm of Cartmel made our stay unforgettable. We can’t wait to return! "

"I booked this very quickly by just searching Google for "Lake District hotels" one evening and I was very pleased. It is expensive, but it is a 4* hotel, so you would expect to pay a higher price than others. We found the staff brilliant and the room fantastic, although we did get a free upgrade on arrival which was nice, so I can't comment on the room we actually booked! The location is perfect, lovely views and really convienient for the Lake Cruises next door. We did not use the Spa, but did use the sauna and pool, which were great. We only used the Brasserie for the evening meals, and we liked the meals so much, we had the same both nights! (Fish and Chips and the Lakeside Burger) Breakfast was more than enough, with so many choices and great service from the staff. It is an old hotel, but that should not put people off, whilst they are doing lots of renovation, it did not ruin or disturb our time there (I think there was work taking place but we didn't see or hear anything). Our room had old photos on the wall and you can see it has been an established hotel for many years. We chatted to a few other guests and they were all very complimentary about the place. A couple of staff that we remember that were very friendly and we chatted to, were David (at breakfast) and Sheya (I think that was her name in the Brasserie) but there were others and all were really nice. if you want a authentic period (modernised) hotel that fits the "lake district" vibe, book it! "

"We had a very warm welcome on arrival. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Very dog friendly and it was great we could eat with our dog in the bar. The family room was very clean and good size. Not a great view of the fire escape but it didn’t matter for one night. In a great location in the seafront and easy to park outside on the road for free. "

"Ideal picturesque setting looking over lake windermere. Food excellent both nights and excellent value. Good choice of wine. Walking around area and saw 2 deer, lots of baby rabbits. friendly helpful staff. Lovely building. pool jacuzzi perfect. "
