This quaint fishing village, overlooked by a medieval castle, sits on the quiet shores of St. Malo Bay with views of Manche, an area of France, in the distance.

A picturesque village surrounded by fields and overlooking a tranquil bay, Gorey is one of the most atmospheric corners of Jersey. Come here to see a stunning medieval castle, then stay to experience the laid-back atmosphere and friendly welcome. A collection of acclaimed restaurants, combined with stunning views, make Gorey a delightful place to linger on a trip to the Channel Islands.

Learn about the region’s history at the Faldouet Dolmen on the outskirts of the village. This Neolithic stone structure was built by the island’s earliest inhabitants. The village grew in size and significance with the construction of Mont Orgueil Castle in the 13th century. From the 1800s onward, Gorey was a fishing hub. Today, it’s one of the most popular tourism spots on the island.

Explore the fortifications of Mont Orgueil Castle, which stands on a hilly peninsula above the village. Climb up narrow staircases, search for hidden rooms and learn about the castle’s numerous occupants throughout the centuries.

Stroll along the scenic harbour. Look eastward to see the Manche region of France. Walk along Gorey Pier for the best perspective of the harbour and the row of pastel-colored houses beneath the castle.

Spend a day at the beach, enjoying the warm waters of Grouville Bay. Watersports operators offer a variety of activities here. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, play a round of golf on the waterfront course.

Gorey is famed for its food, with oyster beds in the water and Jersey Royal potatoes flourishing in the fields. Find restaurants serving delectable, fresh seafood and cafés on the beach with views of the bay.

The mild climate of the Channel Islands makes Gorey a pleasant place to visit throughout the year. Plan a summer trip to ensure the warmest days on the beach. Drive to Gorey in about 25 minutes from Jersey Airport in St. Peter. From France, travel here by ferry.

Gorey is quiet, but slightly less so than a decade ago - the odd drunk wanders past your window late at night but it’s nothing compared to St Helier!
