"Mark was very accommodating and my room was really big and comfortable Water pressure very good for having a shower I only stayed 1 night but I know the area very well and the guest house is a short walk from most places in town but quiet and peaceful guest house location Penrith is a beautiful picture postcard town and very handy base for traveling to the Lake District I will certainly be booking again I didn’t stay for breakfast but the menu look delicious "

"Excellent stay. Surprised it was only 2 and a half star. Room was excellent and clean. All staff were so nice but a special shout out to Lauren (I hope I spelt that right) who was on her feet working and tidying from late at night and up working first thing in the morning. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and was a very nice lady to talk to always making sure we were settled and happy, and we only stayed for one night sadly. We will definitely come back soon. "

"The Crown Hotel is nestled in a quiet community near Carlisle. It is located near a train station but also has a parking area (spaces are a bit tight, designed for small cars but filled with larger cars). There is access to a private gym/fitness center on site. There is a lovely garden with seating. The morning breakfast is quite nice with many options. We stayed three nights while we explored Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. Also, there is a nearby footpath that takes you along the Eden River to Constantine's Cell/Wetheral Caves which made for a lovely morning walk."

"This stay is hard to evaluate, because it was uneven. It is an experience staying in a medieval castle. We wandered around the interior to see the rooms, with old paintings, suits of armour, etc., which was interesting. The staff upgraded us from servants quarters to a cottage. The cottage was modernized with a living room and wide screen tv, a bedroom, and bathroom with a tub and walk-in shower. This was all good except for the mouse we saw in the bedroom. We had dinner in the dining room, which was kind of worn down, definitely in need of an upgrade. The food was good but not great, and it was expensive. Service was passable, but simple things like providing a bread plate and a functional candelabra were not done. The meal was fair but this was not as good as it could have been. The staff did upgrade us and helped with the internet and tv, but he was not to be found after our check-in. We never got a tour or got to climb to the top of the tower. I made a mistake in booking by one day, but I recognized and corrected that error on the internet. I asked more than once if they would waive the penalty fee for having to cancel the original registration date and rebook the correct dates, and staff replied to my emails but never responded to my request to waive the fee. In the end we were charged a fairly hefty cancellation fee, which is pretty shabby treatment. It was interesting staying in a castle and the upgrade was great, but the place was just a bit “off.”"

"What a haven after my drive from Scotland - superbly welcoming staff and explanation of room upon my arrival - was a wonderful final night of my trip returning to Norfolk the next day - thanks to all staff !!"
