"Perfect intimate beach getaway, except..."
Faced with serious medical issues and the need for quiet reflection, we recently selected The Tides Inn Penthouse Suite for a three day getaway that included me, my husband, mom, dad, and one pet. Although more costly than other larger hotels in the area, we picked it for five reasons. 1) Close proximity to the beach with a private deck 2) Modern, refurbished, clean facilities 3)The allowance of pets 4) Privacy of separate rooms 5) Boutique hotel experience: Upscale luxury sheets, bedding, daily breakfast, kayaks, bikes, service.
The Tides delivered on many of our expectations. Kind and courteous staff. A private deck just steps away from the beach with breathtaking views. The most comfortable bed of any I've ever slept in. Modern, updated, clean facilities...right down to the sidewalk...which was scrubbed daily.
Where it missed the mark is in the labeling. The word boutique conjures up certain images: picnic baskets left by the door, beach chairs set up...ready and waiting, cocktail hours, and above all else...quiet and intimacy. The Tides, while fine for a family getaway, and WAY better than any general road side hotel, was far from pampering. Beneath our very expensive private deck, children screamed past 10pm nightly. The room contained no bath (shower only). Beach towels were MIA unless requested. Breakfast was standard continental fare. Stains on the curtains and bedding.
Would I return? Yes, but more for a girls weekend than a romantic vacation or healing retreat
