Yes probably 100 years ago it was exclusive and upmarket. And yes the Queen and many famous people stayed, But they wouldn’t step foot inside now as it’s so run down. If the hotel had a refurb it would be amazing but unfortunately it’s very dated. The room was like going back in time 50 years ago everything including furniture and TV was so old. It’s not cheap to stay either we could have stayed at Hampton Hilton for cheaper. However on the positive side Breakfast was very nice. Was disappointed had to pay £14 to park vehicle in the hotel car park overnight also." Unfortunately, this smell persisted throughout our entire stay when going through the reception area. Check-in was very slow, with only one staff member on duty at 3pm — one of the busiest times of the day. We had booked an executive room, but it looked quite tired and in need of refurbishment. The room was mostly clean but very dusty, with rubbish found under the bed. The shower had what appeared to be mould around the edges. We could also clearly smell cigarette smoke coming from other guests’ bathrooms in the adjoining room. Overall, the stay was just okay."
