Hotels in Fish Camp outside Yosemite National Park

Fish Camp is a tiny community just a stone’s throw from the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park. It’s such a small place that it has more hotel beds than permanent residents. Despite, or perhaps because of, its size, it has a lot going for it as a base for a holiday to Yosemite, primarily the fact that it is a mere two miles from the park’s entrance.

Whether you’re looking for a stay in a luxurious resort or a budget family hotel, you’ll find it in Fish Camp, which has two-, three- and four-star hotels as well as some excellent lodges and inns with great facilities and incredible views.

Things to Do in Fish Camp

The main reason for staying in a hotel in Fish Camp is to visit Yosemite National Park, but there are several other things to do nearby. Chalk up and scale the climbing wall at Tenaya Lodge, where you can enjoy also some winter ice-skating before snuggling up around the fire pit. For a more relaxing adventure, take a ride on a steam train at the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad, an original narrow gauge train open for rides in spring and summer. Year round, you can enjoy the restaurants in Fish Camp, or, if you’re self-catering, stock up on essentials in the village’s small general store.

Visiting Yosemite National Park from Fish Camp

Fish Camp is just a couple of miles away from the Yosemite’s southern gateway and 32 miles away from Yosemite Valley and Yosemite Village, along Highway 41. In Yosemite Valley, you can see the stunning Yosemite Falls, North America’s tallest waterfall, as well as visit iconic landmarks such as El Capitan and Half Dome, and the park’s visitor centre is based in Yosemite Village. Fish Camp is not far from the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, a fantastic place for a stroll beneath these giant ancient trees before heading back to your hotel in Fish Camp.
