Yosemite National Park is packed with expansive views, jaw-dropping sights and scenic drives, so it’s a perfect place to explore by car. Hiring a car in the Yosemite National Park area is easy, and allows you to choose your own route and explore at leisure.
If you’re flying into one of the major cities on the California coast, you can pick up your Yosemite hire car at the airport. You’ll also find car rental offices at smaller regional airports such as Mammoth Yosemite, and in the western gateway town of Oakhurst.
If you’re hiring a car in Yosemite during the winter months, remember the eastern entrance to the park will be closed. The other entrances remain open all year round, but you may need snow chains for your tyres.
There are four main entrance gates to Yosemite National Park. You’ll need to pay an entrance fee, but once you’re in the park the main sights are easy to access by road. At busy times you may have to park up and take a shuttle bus to some of the popular Yosemite Valley sights.
Use your hire car to explore some of the sights and attractions outside the park. Get a taste of Gold Rush history in Jamestown or Bodie, or head into the Sierra foothills to discover some superb local vineyards.
