Pocket Guide: Egmond aan Zee

Hotels @ Egmond aan Zee

Egmond aan Zee is a real family resort. On the beach you can get all you want from a beach holiday; rent sun beds, parasols and wind shields and eat ice creams at one of the many beach pavilions. Capture Jan van Speijk (lighthouse) on your camera, cycle through colourful flower fields in spring and visit the medieval village behind the dunes.

Sleep on the Beach of Egmond

The hotels in Egmond aan Zee are spread over all over town, but those looking for the ultimate seaside holiday will no doubt want to stay right on the beach. Here you will find the lighthouse Jan van Speijk; at 37 m tall it’s quite the eye catcher. The white tower sadly has limited access for small groups. On Friday nights in July and august you can visit by appointment only.

Behind the dunes you’ll find the Medieval Egmond-Binnen and Egmond aan den Hoef , which together with Egmond aan Zee are collectively known as the Three Egmonden. Egmond-Binnen was built by monks, but today it has a lively main street where shops, boutiques and terraces are open every day. The Abbey of Egmond is one of the main attractions. You can book a tour of the church, pottery, candle factory and the museum.

Egmond aan den Hoef is a beautiful scenic town, and has an Old Town centre with beautiful facades. It comes as no surprise that it’s marked as a highlight on the cycle and walking routes.

Talking about cycling: it is recommended to follow the bollenroute (route through flower fields) in spring. This 40 km long route (there is also a 20 km route available) guides you through colourful, blooming fields of flowers. Try riding through the beautiful dune landscape. Get a map of the dunes at the local VVV (Tourist Information Office) and make sure you’ve seen all the sights before you leave.
