The Sofia was a great place to stay! The proximity to The Gaslamp area, Little Italy, the waterfront and many means of transportation made it a very convenient location. We found the hotel to be very charming and well-maintained. The rooms are small but certainly met our needs. We were impressed by the free walking tour and the use of bikes (although we did not have the opportunity to take advantage of that offer). Coffee shops and restaurants were close by and convenient. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and always available. We would definitely book The Sofia again!
This hotel is convenient to the San Diego Convention Center and water front, and lots of local restaurants, pubs and shopping + the baseball stadium. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, letting us check in early as our room was ready. We got a room without much of a view on the 2nd floor, but it was clean and comfortable with good tea and coffee. This hotel definitely caters to dog lovers. We wanted to spend some time on the 9th floor deck in the evening to enjoy the view, but almost everybody had a dog along, so we didn't end up spending much time there.
This hotel is within a 20 minute walk of the Convention Center and a lot of shopping and dining. I was able to eat from the deli of a grocery store close by and save money on my recent business trip. The hotel room was comfortable and I enjoyed a balcony on my room. The price was one of the best in the area for what I needed.
You definitely get more for what you pay for here. This is a very nice hotel for a very good price. The rooms were spacious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only things I wish were different are that it was pretty cold the night we stayed and the heater wasn't very strong. (The beds were very comfy and warm though.) The other thing is that when I submitted an order for breakfast roomservice, my order form was never taken from my door. Even with those two things, I would still come back for another stay. It was very clean, easy to get to, and had some very nice and helpful staff. Even the night-time security guard helped us out with where to eat late at night when most places were closed.
"Trendy hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp District."
Trendy hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp District. Only a few blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center. Great restaurants nearby. Staff is warm and welcoming. Housecleaning was prompt. Allow for early check in upon request. Modern facility. Only drawback was the lack of a continental breakfast but the free pineapple cupcakes available in the afternoon are delicious! The option for bike rental is great - a terrific way to get to the zoo (or just a quick bus ride away)
Rooms were a little on the small size. Bathrooms were a size of a closet and what they don't tell you when booking (unless I was blind at the time) is that there is an extra $16 parking charge for the day/night. As its in downtown I guess I'd expect that but it would be nice to have known at the time of booking. Quiet hotel, good breakfast and friendly staff.
Extended family trip and the experience was great. The hotel was wonderful and the staff was excellent. The breakfast was unbelievable with so many options. One of 2 only complaints we had was having to request towels and washcloths every day. Housekeeping took the dirty ones but did not replace with clean ones. The second was no self parking and the valet parking is an outrageous $42 per day.
San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.
