"We stayed at Knockderry Country House Hotel as a group and had booked seven rooms.
The hotel has some clear positives: the location is very beautiful, right by the loch, and the setting is peaceful and atmospheriс, the staff are nice and friendly. The rooms were generally comfortable, and the building itself has charm.
However, our overall experience was only okay, and I would probably not choose to stay here again.
One of the main reasons we booked the hotel was the restaurant. We enjoy good food and had read positive reviews about the dinner, but unfortunately the food did not meet our expectations. It was not just average — most dishes were quite disappointing and not particularly tasty. Even something simple like fries was inconsistent: one guest received good fries, while others were served much less appealing ones. Overall, the dinner felt uneven and underwhelming.
Breakfast was also quite average, and during our stay the coffee machine was not working, so there was no proper coffee available, which was disappointing.
The rooms were comfortable, but I also felt the cleaning could have been better. I understand that this is a countryside hotel surrounded by nature, but checking for cobwebs near the bed before guests arrive seems like a reasonable expectation.
The location is beautiful, but also quite remote, so it is worth keeping in mind that there are not many alternatives nearby if you are not happy with the restaurant."
