"Greeted by very friendly staff. Found my room first thing I noticed was door of my room could do with painting..lots of marks and it looked v tired. Room was bright, curtain needed attaching. Looked clean, nice size comfy bed. Bathroom clean and the shower was great. Not to keen on free toiletries smell of them wasn't the nicest I have smelt. Breakfast I paid for separately on the day but was v busy so I was asked if I could return in 30 mins. This wasn't a problem for me and was accommodated when I returned. Breakfast was v nice and a great choice to choose from. My only suggestion would be to paint areas and replace carpets as v tired and dated..especially were the Bathroom and carpet join. If the little things where addressed it would make a big difference. Windows needed cleaning!"

"The hotel is closing this Sept for a two year renovation. Some staff have already left for other city jobs. Both sink and bathtub did not drai well. The room tv was so small it was almost impossible to see. No bar soap provided. Asked for a one hour late checkout and it was granted but almost begging. Good location. Dave in the restaurant was good as well as both doorman. Possible maybe second stay but only after renovation."

"Excellent location, right on the main shopping road, near to most of the City attractions. 15 ish minute walk to the racecourse. Grand entrance and reception. Room was a little tired, but it was clean and suited me for one night. Excellent breakfast."

"Rooms were nice and were clean. Only negatives were 1) there's not really a desk in the room . Only a round stool with no back on it so difficult if you're using the hotel for business. 2) There were no vegan main meals on the menu which is disappointing."

"Lovely room (206) on the ground floor with sliding patio door to access the peaceful courtyard (water, fountains, small trees) and chairs to sit on your own small ‘patio’. Spacious room, great en suite. Food excellent (Catch of the Day fish and chips - hake in our case - better than Rick Stein’s Takeaway version in Padstow) Hotel in a lovely setting. Great sunsets. Spa, pool and changing room (Ladies’ - didn’t see Men’s side) spotlessly clean. Friendly, cheerful staff happy to help and can’t do enough for you. "
