Wrexham is a town abuzz with things to do. As the borough’s administrative hub, it has all the cultural, commercial and creative excitement that you would expect. But it’s about much more than its indisputable urban charms.
Surrounded by wondrous countryside, and plenty of charming towns and villages to explore, it’s a great place to base yourself if you’re planning on using a car rental service to get yourself out on the road.
Wrexham is situated in the northeast of Wales, close to the border with England, and at the heart of some spectacular Welsh landscapes. In fact, Wrexham is just an 8 mile car drive from the spectacular Pontcysyllte Aquaduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the world’s tallest navigable canal boat crossing.
Snowdonia, just 30 miles away, and less than an hour’s drive in the car, is the foremost national park in Wales, where you will discover 827 square miles of wondrous scenery, including 37 miles of coastline, as well as the majestic peaks of Snowdon itself.
Being so close to England also makes Wrexham an ideal base for ducking across the border to explore some of the sights there. The walled city of Chester is just 25 minutes away in the car, whilst the historic market town of Shrewsbury is only 35 minutes away.
If however you’re looking for the big city experience, you have three of Britain’s greatest within reach by car: Liverpool is less than an hour away, Manchester only a short distance further, whilst a mere hour and a half in the car will bring you to Birmingham, arguably Britain’s finest shopping destination.
