Fly into Mumbai and Rent a Car
With Mumbai being such a vast city, you might decide to hire a car on arrival, especially if you’re travelling on business or know the city well. A rental car means you’ll get to your hotel or office far quicker than if you rely on public transport. By using the major arterial roads like the Eastern and Western Express Highways, you’ll have easy access to both the north and south of Mumbai, you can often save a lot of time.
Road Trips from Mumbai
If you have time to explore, take your rental car out of Mumbai to the wilderness area of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, a tropical forest filled with birds, butterflies and the occasional wild leopard. You could also drive out to the ancient Kanheri Caves where 160 rock-cut cavities house relics of Buddha and the Bodhisattvas.
Alternatively, if you have kids in tow, take a drive to the Esselworld amusement park, which claims to be the largest theme park in India. Located in Gorai, Mumbai, to the north of Manori Creek, the park is filled with rollercoasters, rides and other attractions, along with a 7D movie theatre and an ice-rink.
Driving in Mumbai
Like the UK, India drives on the left. Traffic in Mumbai can be mayhem at times, so pay close attention to scooters, rickshaws, pedestrians, buses and anyone else sharing the road.
