Find hotels in Cave City, CA from £49

The best area to stay in Cave City is near the entrance to Mammoth Cave National Park, specifically along Mammoth Cave Parkway and the immediate surrounding roads.

This area is the primary gateway to the park and offers the most convenient access to its main attractions. You'll find a cluster of hotels, motels, and various dining options situated close to the park's visitor centre and cave tour departure points. The layout is straightforward, with accommodations and eateries generally lining the main roads leading to the park entrance.

Families will find this location particularly suitable. Staying here means minimal travel time to reach the cave tours, visitor centre exhibits, and outdoor activities like hiking trails and the Green River ferry crossing. Many of the accommodations cater to families with amenities like indoor pools and breakfast options, making mornings before park adventures much smoother.

For those planning to explore beyond the caves, such as the nearby Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo or Dinosaur World, staying near the park entrance still offers good road access to these attractions without lengthy commutes.

The best time to visit Cave City is during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) months. These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the area's natural attractions.

During spring, temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and cave tours. The surrounding landscapes are lush and green, and wildflowers are often in bloom, adding to the scenery.

Autumn also provides comfortable temperatures, generally between 18°C and 28°C, and a reduction in the larger summer crowds. The air is often crisp, and it's a great time for experiencing the local trails and attractions without the peak summer heat.

While summer (June to August) is also popular, temperatures can soar above 30°C, which might be less comfortable for extended outdoor excursions, especially for families with young children.
