The staff service was exceptional at this hotel, the friendly and attentiveness of the employees really made this a wonderful break away. The room was ideal in a pet friendly room it was not luxurious but adequate and suited our visit. The food was wonderful and we felt treated from arriving to departure. I would recommend this hotel it can not be faltering delivery.

Only stayed for one night on way home, wished was longer. Fabulous hotel in a lovely setting that would be a perfect base for local attractions. Staff very friendly and helpful, room great with gorgeous view and breakfast excellent. Arrived late but squeezed in a drink at bar...food menu looked good.

We booked a 2 night stay here to celebrate my wife's birthday , we wanted a relaxing weekend and the white horse seemed to offer what we were looking for . Right from check-in i realised we had definitely picked the right place . We received a warm and friendly welcome and were shown to our room . We picked a junior suit and there was nothing junior about it. We found it big , bright and offered everything we wanted . Very clean and well presented.

Had a great overnight stay. Lovely room with view on golf course. Nice to have bath with separate shower. Reception team very kind and helpful as were the staff in Roosters restaurant and the breakfast room. I took advantage of the nearby included gym and pool (12 min drive or the hotel also has a free bookable shuttle). All in all I was very impressed.

Lovely characterful hotel in a great location. We were upgraded in to a four poster room. Although the bed dominated the room there was still room for a sofa, desk and chairs. In addition there was a very spacious ensuite with a modern finish and great fittings. The staff were very welcoming and keen to help.
The villagers of Pilsley were very friendly. Just up the road is the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop which has a brilliant selection of foodstuffs for those wanting the odd snack, souvenirs...

Bed was very comfortable, and room had great separate area for children with 3 bunk beds. Also loved the kitchen facilities with microwave and sink and provision of crockery and cutlery. There was also a small patio with great views over the surrounding countryside.

Very pleasant small hotel in a quiet rural setting just outside Bakewell with excellent views across the Derbyshire countryside. Room was very comfortable and appeared to have been recently decorated. Staff very friendly and the restaurant offered a good choice of meals at a reasonable price of good quality. Breakfast was also very good and really set us up for the day.
For walkers there is good access to the footpath network from right outside the hotel and the river walk in the valley below...

The best area to stay in Carsington is directly around Carsington Water, particularly in the villages of Carsington, Brassington, and Kniveton, as these offer direct access to the reservoir and its activities.
Carsington village itself is a lovely, quiet spot, superb for those who want to be right by the water. It's home to the Carsington Water Visitor Centre, which is the main hub for activities like cycling, watersports, and walking trails around the reservoir. You'll find a few local pubs and guesthouses here, making it convenient for access to all the water-based fun.
For families, staying near the Carsington Water Visitor Centre is ideal. There's plenty to keep children entertained, from the adventure playground to hiring bikes for a ride around the reservoir. The centre also has shops and cafes, providing everything you might need for a day out.
Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate the quieter villages slightly further afield, such as Brassington or Kniveton. These villages offer a more secluded feel with traditional pubs and lovely walking routes, while still being just a short drive from Carsington Water.

The surrounding Derbyshire Dales are at their greenest, making it superb for scenic drives and countryside strolls.
Families will find these months particularly suitable as the good weather allows for full enjoyment of activities like sailing, windsurfing, and paddleboarding on Carsington Water. There are also designated play areas and nature trails that are much more enjoyable when the weather is fine.
Couples looking for a relaxing escape will appreciate the opportunity for leisurely walks around the reservoir, stopping at lakeside cafes, or exploring the charming nearby villages like Carsington village itself.
