The Hotel is a 15 century house which has been sympathetically restored retaining many of the original features. The bedrooms in the main house were charming, very clean with a very fresh en suite and lovely white bed linen and towels. There is an award winning restaurant which produced mouth-watering meals with a menu to suit most palates. What made the stay memorable were the very friendly, helpful and thoughtful staff. 3 Adults one child and a dog, three nights, very tight budget. I did not fancy camping as I didn't want to get wet and cold, my knees demand a high bed and my bladder wants a loo...well, when it wants a loo! I was lucky enough to get a double smoking room with sofa bed for approx the same price as a tent with electric hook-up . The receptionist made us feel very welcome. The room was basic, clean and, because it is a smoking room there was a very feint smell of cigarettes - although I am...

We had a lovely stay. The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And was in a fab location for what we needed.

Fantastic overnight stay. Made to feel very welcome upon arrival by the owner who then took us to a great vantage point to take in the stunning views whilst giving us a brief bit of background history surrounding the building. We took our dog who was welcomed greatly. The staff on site were pleasant and polite and on hand to assist with anything we needed. Breakfast was great. Can't wait to return later on in the year.

We couldn't fault this - from the welcome, through a comfortable sleep to a friendly great breakfast. Lovely place, well-run, perfectly clean, and very friendly. The views from the rooms are extensive, yet it's a short walk to a very acceptable pub with good beer and meals. Definitely one to go back to.

We stayed two nights at the Bear in September and enjoyed it immensely. This is a ancient Coaching Inn and so layout is a little quirky. But the room was a good size and extremely comfortable. Large four poster bed, comfortable armchair, sufficient hanging space, a well appointed en suite and tea making facilities, made for a great stay. Breakfast was individually made and well cooked. We also are in the bar late on Sunday and the roast (topside of beef and all trimmings) was outstanding....

The hotel is situated in a beautiful, secluded and extremely picturesque location.
Everything is about quality over quantity from the number of rooms to the very well prepared meals, which clearly use the best ingredients.
Limited facilities, but this is part of the charm. The owners and waitress were always on hand to ensure satisfaction and are very friendly.
Not suitable for younger children, which will suit many older people looking for a few days of tranquility away from busy lives.

Lovely room with an amazing view. Facilities were great, and there were lots of lovely little touches, such as the dressing gowns. Also I had asked if there would be any oat/soya milk available as I have an intolerance, when we arrived there was not only oat milk but gluten and dairy free cereals, biscuits and yoghurt. Very appreciated
Only drawback was the lack of parking, it's a shame that something can't be worked out with the council to get a reduced rate. Would recommend this place, and we...

When is the best time to go to Bridgend?
For most visitors, the best time to go to Bridgend is between late spring and early autumn, from May to September, when the weather is generally mildest and most suitable for exploring.
The summer months of July and August offer the warmest temperatures, making them ideal for enjoying Bridgend's many outdoor attractions, such as the coastal paths and local beaches like Ogmore-by-Sea and Southerndown. These months also see a full calendar of local events and festivals, providing more opportunities to experience the local culture. For families, this period aligns perfectly with school holidays, making it convenient for trips to attractions like Bryngarw Country Park.
If you prefer to avoid the busiest tourist periods but still want pleasant weather, May, June, and September are excellent choices. During these months, you'll find the countryside is lush and green, great for hiking or cycling along the Celtic Trail. Couples might particularly enjoy these shoulder seasons for a more relaxed experience, with fewer crowds at popular spots like the historic Ewenny Priory.
While Bridgend can be visited year-round, the cooler, wetter months from October to April are less ideal for those looking to make the most of the area's natural beauty and outdoor activities.
