"We go there a lot and have been doing for years. Staff generally great. Nice to be on the beach, especially in the summer. Despite being refurbished a couple of years ago, the upper corridors look a bit grubby and in need of a few fresh coats of paint. Upstairs carpets also look grubby. And we really don't like the new decor. We preferred it as it was.The rooms are nice and clean when you arrive and housekeeping is good. There are a few issues with the new bathrooms which could do with some attention. Induction at the spa was really poor. I and other people who'd come just for the day we're left with no idea how anything worked! That member of the spa staff needs training properly. The person who did my massage though was great."

"Stayed at the Grand many times. This time we felt things weren’t to the usual standard. Close to our room the area was being decorated. There were signs apologising but we did wonder, given that the hotel didn’t appear to be ‘to capacity’ why we couldn’t be in an area not being decorated. We were also never far from the noise of pigeons in our room which wasn’t great. At breakfast, we are usually asked if we want anything over and above the buffet. This time, no one did that or indeed offered us toast. This was odd because again, at no point was there a sense that the hotel was full. When we went to the bar area for a drink there was a delay before anyone asked us what we’d like. At the same time staff were huddled at the bar chatting. All in all, we felt the service wasn’t all it used to be. We hope that next time we stay, service will be the usual level of excellence."

"Very friendly atmosphere and lovely staff who were happy and willing to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Superior double room was clean and spacious and bathroom was pristine and up to date. It would have been nice to be able to open the fixed net curtains to have a proper view of the garden outside our room but this is a small personal niggle. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Overall, a lovely location for a weekend visiting Rye and its surroundings and I would stay here again."

"The George, like most properties in Rye is a very old building which whilst adding to its charm also presents the usual issues surrounding layout and maintenance We had room 29 which was a reasonable size however looked tied and was decorated in a Psychedelic Orange patterned wall paper covering all walls and ceiling!! Evidence of mould on window frames however over all the room was clean Like all hotels in Rye the cost of room was higher than your usual hotel stay but that is the price of staying in Rye Food looked good however we ate out as plenty of good quality options close by with greater variety and cheaper prices"
