"Until standardisation of weights and measures in the 18th century, a "mile" in Scotland could be a variable distance. Generally a Scottish mile was longer than a mile in England, a fact which was immortalised by Robert Burns in his poem "Tam o' Shanter" - "We think na on the lang Scots miles..."

After the Union of the Parliaments in 1701, the standard English measure began to be introduced in Scotland, gradually replacing the Lang Scots Mile. "Walking in to the hotel was beautiful but it’s so hard to get a parking space , it’s all been redecorated so went up to our room which was room 6 and it’s very dark so we had to put the lights on in the afternoon, lots of clattering and banging going on so went to reception and spoke to them and they said it was the bins getting taken out I just was checking that it wasn’t going to be like that all night , there is a middle door which was being used and it just banged shut , through the night there was a huge argument outside of the side we were at and then at 5 am the door started to get banged shut and didn’t stop from then on I’m not sure if that was the staff coming and going to work but we had a very unsettled night but apart from that the staff are really lovely and food was good so that was such a shame as the banging of that door really spoiled our stay ."

"We arrived as the concierge was taking a phone call from another customer complaining and requesting a refund...not the best start. Our stay coincided with a friends birthday party in the function suite, she was told there was a special rate for those that booked direct with the hotel. Three phonecalls later and staff had no idea about it, so we booked on hotels.com instead as the rates going direct were significantly higher. We stayed in room 18, which has seen better days, cracks in the tiles and bath panel. In comparison to the lochside, this hotel is severely lacking and the bed and pillows fairly uncomfortable. That said, the room was clean. The biggest issue i had that night was with a member of barstaff, I used the hotel bar rather than the function suite as there was only one member of staff serving and i wanted cocktails. I gave my order to the staff member and they didnt appear to be very pleased, but made them, I then asked for a pina colada and they looked furious, i asked to pay and come back for it, they huffed and handed me the card reader. I can only guess they'd just cleaned the machine, but I know that i did not deserve that level of attitude. Later i returned to the bar for more cocktails, that same member of staff, left and then returned, when we asked if they were serving they replied "no, i told you that before i left" just very unprofessional. I wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone"
