The place was amazing, extremely comfortable, Anna and Wendy were are great help because my Spanish was very poor. We walked into town both nights for dinner and caught the train into SAN Sebastion for the day.
Highly recommend this place

Hemos realizado el recuento de los alojados, y hemos sacado la conclusión que ustedes no se han alojado aquí, usted tenía para una noche de septiembre y no llego.
We had a beautifully furnished, very comfortable room and were made very welcome. Easy walk to the centre of this nice little town set on the river. Great place for a stopover en route through France and Spain, in the heart of Basque country. Rather difficult to find as the address doesn’t register on satnav or google maps. It is actually in the town of Orio, not the village of Aya which the address indicates - Aya being also the region.

Thank you for your comment as it helps us improve. We have taken note and we will communicate with google. Hoping we have received the new year we thank you sincerely.
We had a cute room on the upper floor that looked out to the back of the house. The home was very clean and well cared for. The owner is a charming woman who is very welcoming and pays close attention to detail. The breakfast was served in a room with a large window looking out on the garden. The food was excellent and plentiful.
We really enjoyed our stay in Casa Mailan and left with a heavy heart. They go the extra mile to welcome guests and help them at every stage. We even got a lift to a local restaurant! Highly recommended if you don't want to stay in a boring anonymous hotel!
Most awesome place to stay to visit San Sebastion.
This was our first time to the area in Spain and it was such a pleasure to stay at this bed and breakfast in. The breakfast was very good and the service was outstanding
We stayed for 2 nights, really friendly people, helpful and warm, the room and the whole place is a piece of art, with two lovely pets, Sua and Leo,
Will be back soon,
For the price my room was fabulous and probably the biggest and nicest room I've enjoyed in a long time. I speak very limited Spanish and the staff very little English but we got along very well. They were most kind and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.
An absolutely beautiful house in Orio - which is also stunning and a great base for exploring the rest of the Basque Country. Orio is quirky and traditional and so friendly. Casa Mailan is perfect, clean and a great host - breakfasts are simple and delicious and nothing is too much trouble for them. Rooms are very big and beautifully decorated. I can't recommend this enough :)))
This hotel resembles a house that rents out the basement (lower level) as the quad and other rooms for doubles. We stayed here one night to be close to San Sebastian and to go to the Mugaritz restaurant. From that perspective, it was a good location - however it is a 20 minute car ride to San Sebastian that might not suit people. If one is to hiking or rowing and other outdoor activities, the town of the hotel is an ideal spot. We stayed in the family quad that was large, clean, and fully equipped with a kitchen. There was not a hot breakfast but the served breakfast was varied and good. The manager had lots of maps and local tourist information. No one spoke English though and we had a little trouble communicating. It was easy to drive to and they had sufficient parking.
A great central location near the train station for travel to Bilbao or San Sebastián, the owner offers personalized attention and was very helpful in offering suggestions on things to do in San Sebastián. As would be expected with older lodging the floors will creak and the walls are thin, but the rooms were very clean and the view out of our room was beautiful.
Very Charming hotel walking distance to many interesting sites. Staff was attentive and we were able to communicate well enough with our limited Spanish. Gardens are beautiful. But note there are many steps which may be a problem for some people
Our room was beautiful, the staff were more than helpful and Orio was a great location for us to get into San Sebastian by train. We were also able to explore Zarrautz really easily.
This is a beautiful quiet family run small private hotel run by a lovely and very helpful host - who went out of her way to communicate with us even though we could only speak English. Peaceful and quiet area, five minutes walk into Orio township which is very nice, minutes walk to rail station with connections to San Sebastian, other seaside towns and thru to Henday in the north for connections into France. Could not fault the accommodation at all.
Great little hotel right by the train station with easy access to San Sebastian and Bilbao. Very nice owner and staff that were helpful with our questions. It is also a very nice little town that we enjoyed very much
A warm welcome was provided. The hotel was extremely clean and well laid out. The breakfast was nice and served overlooking a courtyard area. The location is excellent as the rail line to San Sebastion is just around the corner - tickets were under 3euros. Highly recommended - would stay again.
Lovely, rural house with a warm welcome and fantastic breakfast. Great for stopover en route to Bilbao/Santander ferry ports. Quick train ride into centre of San Sebastian. Orios itself is a peaceful and friendly location, with a great river beach and lots of history. Staff couldn't do enough for us, parking and secure outhouse for our cycles.
We had an excellent stay in Hotel Mailan. Esti, Inarra and Joanna couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and accomodating. We had a lovely spacious room that even boasted a chandelier. The hotel is conveniently located beside a train station so travelling to Zarautz and San Sebastian was really convenient. Orio is a nice little town situated on a wide river and has a lovely beach and nice river walks too. Overall we were very happy with our stay.
We stayed 09/06 to 15/06 2013. Arrived on a very rainy Sunday and were welcomed by the charming owner of "Mailan" a small guesthouse set back from Orio with great views of the town to the front and over the fields and wetlands to the right from our double aspect room on the first floor. The whole hotel is beautifully furnished throughout with original artwork in both the public areas and our room. Breakfast is served in a lovely light extension overlooking the gardens of clipped box and geraniums, very civilised! The train station is about 500 yards from the hotel and there is a cheap and reliable service to both Bilbao and San Sebastian although Orio itself has a well kept beach and you can do several lovely cliff walks direct from the property itself. In conclusion if your looking for an independent hotel/guesthouse offering genuine comfort and welcome "Mailan" is for you. PS: Free wifi with fast enough connection to watch tv, great.
Mailan is essentially a friendly bed and breakfast. Very convenient to inexpensive train to San Sebastian. Friendly host and nice breakfasts. No English. Relatively good value with breakfast included.
This small hotel is easy to find in a small quiet town. It is only a 2 minute walk to the train station which can take to multiple different cities. Also only a 5 minute walkto the town center for eating; The hostess was very helpful and pleasant. Good breakfast worth the extra money hand free parking. Overall a very good value and we would stay here again if in the area.
Nice place to stay for a couple of nights. No English spoken, but we coped! just a few rooms, so more of a "country house" feel thgan a hotel. Barely 200 mt to the train station
The house was cute. We thought it was a hotel but it was more like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. Noisy environment. This hotel is in Spain but we found it odd that the woman running it only spoke French. Not many restaurants nearby.
Nos ha encantado, la amabilidad de Estíbaliz, la casa, el recibimiento, absolutamente todo. Muy bien situado, bien equipado, el desayuno buenísimo. Unos días de 10. Gracias por todo. Volveremos sin dudarlo.
