"Good hotel and was perfect location for us with a 4 year old for the night. Hotel rooms are a little dated but all good, however, our bathroom toilet had a terrible public urine smell to it. We had already put the little one to sleep so we shut the door and didn’t mention it until before breakfast but was told on reception that you have to email to let a duty manager know… hopefully they read the email as still awaiting a response so I imagine they could be getting more complaints until they follow up our email which seems a strange way of dealing with the issue."

"The hotel felt a little run down with only one lift in operation. Breakfast was ok, the staff were responsive once I had pointed out that some of the food needed replenishing, eg fried eggs, ham and cheese. The bed was very comfortable but the TV was poor and remote had no battery cover and batteries kept on getting dislodged. Also, the TV and aerial were not plugged in when I arrived. The bath was lukewarm in the evening, although the shower temperature appeared better in the morning. The reception staff member on arrival was very friendly and helpful and was able to let me in to my room early. All in all, an adequate experience, with the positives down to staff service."

"Booked a “Superior” king room. The actual room was far from superior! Aged aluminium windows, and air conditioning broken. Had to leave the window ajar, because so hot in room, and woken by street noise at 2-3am, even on 10th floor. Had requested help from front desk with air conditioning when arrived and was told it would be fixed while I was out. Called when back in room 3 hrs later and it was still not working and was told that actually it had been broken in the whole hotel (except mezzanine floor level) for at least 24 hrs before my arrival and would not be fixed in my stay. They promised to send a fan to room; it didn’t arrive. I stayed at a Premier Inn a week later (half the price; admittedly not in Cardiff city) and the room was better for sleep. On the more positive side, location in centre of city is great, and good breakfast selection and nice bar area."

"Enjoyed our overnight stay in the Celtic Manor and had time to recharge our batteries. The male member of staff at Reception was exceptional! (Sorry we didn't make a note of his name.) He was particularly welcoming, helpful and informative about all amenities available and booked all the little extras for us. The staff at 'The Grill' were also great, where we enjoyed a tasty meal in a relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, the breakfast offered plenty of variety the following morning. We opted to pay extra for a room with a balcony, however, although it was clean, comfortable and looked nice enough, on close inspection it needed a make-over and a lot of TLC. The balcony was shoddy and the door leading out to it didn't close properly so it was draughty. However, the worst experience for us during this visit was the pool and spa. Despite booking our 'slot', it was full to the brim. There were adults and children diving in to the pool even though there were lifeguards on duty and signs to discourage this. The steam room and jacuzzi / hot tubs were also jammed packed, and so were impossible to sample and enjoy. This aspect was disappointing and unacceptable."
