Classic Elegance, Awesome Staff

Posted 26-Feb-2015
Pros: Location, staff, history, relaxing.
Cons: Wifi is really only available in the lounge and ground floor. The staff stated that they are working on this, but it's a technical challenge.
Location: Beach, shopping, bars and restaurants. Driving distance to Tintagel and other Cornwall attractions.
This hotel is in the middle of Newquay, so all the quirky, beachy stuff is right there. What we really loved was that the rooms on the first floor (2nd floor to an American) had 15 foot ceilings and our room faced the ocean. We could enjoy the terrace right outside our room. (A hotel the age of this one has some issues. The bathroom was a box in the corner of this grand room.) We ate in the restaurant for dinner and at breakfast and the food was excellent. The staff was so friendly and helpful. There was a real fire in the fireplace in the lounge every evening.

Amazing Find

Posted 23-Feb-2015
Pros: Every single member of staff, made us feel welcome and bent over backwards to help us. They became more like friends and family rather than staff.
Cons: I dislocated my little toe in the gym and needed to strap it up (being a qualified first-aider myself), just felt the first aid kit lacked some bits.
Location: Plenty of bars and restaurants and a nice high street, imagine more thriving during holiday season but great for our purposes.
We came down to compete in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition. Finding this hotel on expedia was great due to it's value for money (breakfast included) and proximity to the competition venue and other local amenities. We got there late as traveling from Oxfordshire, but check in was no issue. Mark the night porter sorted everything in a timely and efficient way and directed us to the bar for some much need liquid refreshment. We made friends with some of the other guests at the bar during the evening and then had a great sleep in comfortable beds. We didn't have breakfast the first morning as I needed to make weight but after the comp we went back to celebrate, caught up with hotel staff and new friends and had another great night. The buffet breakfast the next day was great and we used the gym facilities which was helpful to wake us up a bit after another late night having fun with the guests ans staff alike.

Good location and professional, friendly staff.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful old building so the slightly tired rooms are forgivable. The breakfast buffet was hot and replenished often - eating breakfast with a view of the Cornish coastline was a definite plus point. However, the only negative I have would be the spa was a bit of a disappointment. The pool was nice and the jacuzzi was a god send but the Steam Room and Sauna were only tiny tiled rooms that hadn't been tuned on all day.

Would definately stay again!

Great overall hotel experience with pleasant staff and comfortable rooms. The only downside would be the rooms could do with a bit of a freshen up/mordernising.

Nice old place

Posted 16-Jan-2015
Pros: Olde worlde charm
Cons: The TV's
Location: This is surfing territory and you're not allowed to forget.
Plenty of olde worlde charm available the the Vic, including from the reception staff. My room was well proportioned, as was the bathroom. The room furniture was a bit of a mish-mash, but worked, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The TV was a bit dated with a separate box for the freeview and no DVD player. No minibar. The gym was a worn out and the pool a bit bleak, but hey, it was January. Breakfast was a magnificent affair, matched only by the view from the dining room windows. Bar prices are just extortion.

Excellent value

Posted 11-Jan-2015
We got a really good deal booking a 2 night stay through Expedia and were amazed, it was so good for the price. The hotel is a little dated but clean and the staff were extremely helpful. The swimming pool was great. Breakfast was good, we went for a full cooked and as I am gluten free and staff brought me warm rolls.

A lovely character hotel on the sea-front

Posted 04-Jan-2015 on Hotels.com
Hotel Victoria in New Quay is a lovely old hotel in a great central location, over-looking the sea. Our room was a little 'tired' but adequate for a family of four although the en-suite bathroom was tiny and lacked any hanging or shelve space for toiletries etc. Reception staff were helpful, parking was good. We paid more for a room with sea-view but the vast balcony at the rear of the hotel means that you cannot see the sea from your room. Breakfast was a bit hit-and-miss dependant on the times that you got there, sometimes all 'buffet style' choices had run out and we had to ask for more to be cooked. The hotel has a heated in-door pool and jacuzzi for residents which we enjoyed. Lovely big open fire-places to sit in front of in the lounge. Overall, a reasonably priced hotel with great character.

Victoria Hotel, East Street, Newquay

Posted 26-Dec-2014
Pros: The Hotel itself was nice and clean, with staff who were very accommodating.
Cons: Room was quite dated and door to bathroom needed attention as it could not be closed fully. Also Wi-Fi connection was very poor.
Location: Good central location, handy for shops and beaches. Useful for a base. Handy for main attractions. We visited the Blue Reef Aquarium close by.
Unfortunately as this was a short trip we did not get to use all the hotels facilities and services available so our experience was brief. I could imagine that in the summer this hotel would be very busy.
