Close to beach

Posted 12-Sep-2014
Very tired, but clean hotel. Needs some attention to brighten up this old building. Booked standard room which was on 3rd floor, very basic with rooms needing decorating. Bed made noise every time one of us moved. No blinds on bathroom window and pigeons sitting on window sill. Reception was very helpful and moved us to another room which was a suite. Showers in both rooms are mixed taps so maintaining temperature of water was difficult. Breakfast excellent. Overall an "ok" stay.

Good location for central Newquay, but noisy

Posted 30-Aug-2014
Nice old hotel in great location, but brings with it all the noise of Newquay, so try to get a room at the back of the hotel. Own parking on site, but you need to pay for it, only £5 per night though. Decent breakfast. Not bad for the price, but be aware of the noise if you stay front of house.

Dated hotel centre resort with a lot of character

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Pros: Staff very friendly & helpful. We could imagine how grand the hotel would have been in its heyday.
Cons: It needs cosmetically updating , carpets are worn, digi-boxes on TV!! This would require a huge investment & may possibly take away some of the charm
Location: Very busy, plenty of pubs although restaurants are limited. Plenty of good walks

lovely hotel upgrade made it even better.

Posted 28-May-2014
Pros: staff, room and cleanliness was great.
Cons: maybe the bar area could have been a bit more personal. room very big but staff where lovely in all departments.
Location: went out and about on the good days. went to the cornwall mine and falmouth which was lovely.
very friendly staff and they couldn,t do enough for us. the service was great and the room was an upgrade which was a pleasant surprise. food was nice and well presented. and the staff were very friendly. went when two coach loads of visitors of over 100 people. but still given the personal touch by the staff. only drawback was the weather. but it was an excellent time and would stay again.

Needs to be refurbished, it really does!

The hotel is shabby, that is it! Also they can only score 2 out of 5 from the environmental health, funnily enough when i saw this there was no chance of me eating there. Having wandered around i should have stayed in any of the other hotels nearby!

The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are gigantic and it's a perfect location for walking to the beach and going out on a night.

lovely staff. amazing hotel lobby and inner lounge

Posted 22-May-2014
Pros: The beautiful inner lounge area and the staff. Drinking a glass of wine at the end of the day while enjoying the view of the coastline.
Cons: Some parts of the hotel are looking a bit tired.
Location: The location was fine for us as we hired a car, we went to the Eden Project and towns.Advice, book tours to get to the little coastal villages
The staff were fantastic, we were quite taken with the lobby, stairway, inner lounge area and the breakfast room.lovely views up the coast. our room was ok once we'd opened the windows to let some fresh air in.

Can't say much good about this hotel.

Posted 16-May-2014 on Hotels.com
The staff were very nice. The room was clean. That's it. The cons? Very dated hotel. The furniture was old and all chipped and scratched. The carpets were threadbare. The tv was as old (but functional). The bed was uncomfortable. The room was facing the front of the hotel and was beside the nightclub. While the noise wasn't enough to keep us awake or make any fuss about it, it just made the stay significantly less pleasant! Would not stay here again.

Ok, nothing special and charge guests to park!

Posted 07-May-2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed for one night in April 2014 as I had a job in newquay the next day. I booked and paid £55 for a room with breakfast, room was basically a box room with a ensuite and a small single bed with one chair and some old cutlery, kettle stuff. My co worker paid £65 and had a room 3 times the size of mine with a double bed, a far superior room. Biggest problem is that on arrival I was informed that I had to pay £5 a night parking to use the hotel carpark!! they charge for unto 3 nights. The hotel is huge, breakfast was fine (although the waiter never brought my meal) I had toast and a pastry. Its a little dated.. i.e the music being piped into the breakfast area was god awful 80's solo saxophone medleys.. terrible. The bar is very expensive and not very welcoming. Staff were friendly and I had a good nights sleep. for £60 I had my night in newquay, I would probably look elsewhere before going back.
