Think twice before booking

Posted 19-Jul-2015
The most uncomfortable, small bed I've ever slept in. Had to complain but staff were great and upgraded us. No hot shower in the mornings. Hotel a bit tired and dated. Great location though.

Nice hotel. Central and close to the beach

Posted 13-Jul-2015
Lovely stay at the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very close to all the shops and beaches. From the hotel to the beach it's 5 mins walk and to the centre for all the shops it's less than that. There is Parking onsite and we could reserve parking which was helpful. Rooms are very clean but abit dated, the bathroom looked new but all the furniture could do with a refresh. The swimming pool & gym was good and also clean. The breakfast was ok, choice of cereals, fruit, toast or full English breakfast. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again, but the hotel could do with updating the rooms. The front of the hotel is on the road which you could hear the noise from the bars and club outside but it's not bad enough that you can't sleep.

Faded glory

Posted 22-Jun-2015
Pros: The staff, especially Laura, and the girl who went to great lengths to make me a liqueur coffee. The food in the restaurant.
Cons: Obviously some money needs to be spent on furnishings and carpets but it would be a shame to do away with the general turn of the century grandeur.
Location: Newquay is OK. We did not find the access to the beach but it was easy to get out of and travel to places of interest in Cornwall.
Given a room at the front which overlooked the street, the furniture was dreadful, the carpet stained, very upsetting (thought the bed was very comfortable) when mentioned the next morning immediately moved to larger, better room overlooking the sea (though the bed needed a new mattress) The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was OK, except if you ordered an early breakfast when you had to make do with toast. We ate one night in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised, it seems a shame that they don't have more people eat in the restaurant. The pool area is extremely warm and the gym very cramped. Silly of us not realise that Newquay is Stag/Hen night destination but it is only Friday and Saturday nights and Newquay was a good base for visiting Cornwall (especially for a day trip to St Mary's from Newquay Airport) Victoria Hotel is fine, just so long as you aren't at the front, after all you get what you pay for.

The Victoria Hotel

Posted 18-Jun-2015
Pros: Good location and spacious rooms.
Cons: I didn't agree with having to pay an additional £5 to park my car overnight - guests should receive free parking at the very least.
Location: Newquay is a very lively Cornish town, most popular with surfers. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from.
The hotel is in a good location and the room I had was quite comfortable, although one of the vertical window blinds was missing and I had to hold the kettle down so it would boil due to a bad connection. I would have also liked to have seen some leaflets perhaps informing me about the area, and what's on, and also a map of the town centre.

Hotel close to shore

Posted 03-Jun-2015
Pros: The character of the hotel
Cons: The hotel is showing its age and will soon need to be renovated.
Location: There is a large choice of restaurants and shopping near by. Spectacular beach and shore views
Had a very nice room with a sea view at a reasonable cost.

Pros: Breakfast and central location.
Cons: The looks - on the outside and inside of the hotel. It just needs a bit of fresh paint and refurbishment.
Location: The location is central and there are bars, shops and restaurants around the hotel.
The room and the whole hotel were both very clean, although a bit outdated.
