The street runs inside the York city walls, and its name is presumed to refer to the walls of Roman Eboracum, which followed a similar line. The street was first recorded in the 1180s. The 10th-century church of St Helen-on-the-Walls was constructed just off the street, on what became known as St Helen's Lane, but this was demolished in the 1580s. Centrally located for all of the wonderful attractions York has to offer.

We loved everything about this cottage including how quiet it was at night, the beautiful view of the lilac tree from the sunny and relaxing sun room, the cute kitchen and the picturesque neighborhood. Top notch! We will definitely be back here again-one of our favorite places we’ve stayed in in Europe!
