Beautiful building, but the standard double room was very small. It felt quite claustrophobic, the room was no bigger than the double bed plus bedside tables.
Given that we are still mid-pandemic and there are signs throughout the hotel boasting "Enhanced levels of cleaning", the room itself was low in cleanliness.
Bathroom floor was very dirty. The shower drain was also clogged up with hair and soap scum, which we didn't realise until I took a shower and the water wasn't draining away. I had to turn the shower off so it didn't overflow and flood the bathroom, and only turn the shower back on to rinse soap and shampoo away. We then had to use a cup to take some of the water out and pour down the sink. My husband then used a spoon to wedge the shower drain open and cleaned the drain out himself. NOT what we expect to be doing for £232 a night!
There was no air conditioning, which is totally understandable in a building of this age. But the fan provided in the room was the noisiest fan on earth! But the room was so small and hot that it was necessary. Either way we were kept awake by the noise of the fan, or by being too warm.
Breakfast was great though, and the hotel is in a great location to access the city.
In all honesty we wouldn't rush to re-visit this hotel. Whilst it really is a beautiful building, with a gorgeous lobby, the room just wasn't up to standard at all. We've stayed at cheaper hotels and have had a far higher standard of cleanliness.
