"I loved my stay but there were a few issues. The front desk said that Riu Vallarta was a non-smoking hotel but I could definitely smell stale cigarette smoke in my room at times. I loved the pool and the bars and the bartenders were excellent as well. I did have an issue not being able to make reservations at the a la carte restaurants so quite a few nights we had to eat at the buffet. It would be nice if there were more options for the a la carte. Other than that, I truly enjoyed my stay and the ocean view. Thank you!"
"Great stay at Playa Los Arcos. The hotel is in a great location in town and right off the beach. The pool had shade in the afternoon which was nice to be out of the sun if desired. Staff were very helpful - set up chairs and umbrellas on beach, drink service, and checked on us to ensure we had everything we needed. Overall the rooms were as expected and clean."
"We were very disappointed with our visit. We choose a suite which allowed us to have premium service. No one explained to us what that entailed. We were directed to a separate area to eat upgraded drinks and we could eat there. The people serving in that area were rude and did not help in anyway when we asked about premium service. We were not allowed to take any drinks with us unless in a paper cup that leaked within 10 minutes. No one told us we could book the restaurants in that lounge even though we booked through the lobby desks and the person there could have let us know when she saw our bracelet. Our room closet was so moldy we had to throw away clothes that were in there for the 10 days we stayed. We called room service to ask if they could sell us or bring us some dish soap so we could wash my grandson’s bottles, we went through 4 different departments and received hot water and tea. We do know limited Spanish but it was not uncommon to try to talk staff at the hotel, including front desk staff and they did not have a clue what we were saying. We have stayed at other Barcelo properties but never had premium service and we were very disappointed when we returned home and talked to our friends that had the service before and they told us all the perks it included. I don’t know if we will book another Barcelo after this experience. We have been to Mexico many times and never had such poor service."
Hotel Riu Palace Pacifico - Adults Only - All Inclusive
10/10 Excellent
"Very impressed with the staff, the cleanliness and the food from all restaurants. The one thing I’d change is the pool water temperature. They need to add chillers on the pools to make the water more comfortable. Overall, five stars!"
"Travel with kids, we all really enjoyed our stay here. The only thing I didn’t like was that the gym and ice cream stand was not part of the all inclusive plan. Also, we didn’t like how they tried selling us a timeshare.
Other than that we all had a great time and we especially enjoyed the water slides and food!
Staff was amazing!!!"
"This was our first time at the Hyatt Ziva where we and two other couples came for a week. Overall we had a great time.
Keeping from from rating this as Excellent were just a couple of things. The day we arrived, both elevators in the east tower were broken and people were lined up to take the service elevator. The problem was fixed by the end of the following day, but it was quite a hassle.
The room amenities were good, but I was surprised at the lack of any ice machine in the building, anywhere despite supplying an ice bucket in the room. One must either order ice from room service or go to the nearest open bar with your room's ice bucket.
The food was good, but not excellent (although I felt the Casa Grande was bordering on excellent); food options were good, we never had a problem getting a table, but a first class meal with good wine would require you to pay an up-charge.
All that said, I'll repeat that we had a great time here. The staff were universally excellent; friendly and helpful. The beach was very nice, plenty of palapas and chairs, good beach service. Plenty of pools, but more limited chairs and shade around some pools.
All in all, I think we would stay here again."
"The property was clean and nice, but it was not as advertised online. The resort mainly catered to local Mexican guests, with all activities, music, and communication only in Spanish, which made us feel excluded as international travelers. We ended up planning activities outside the resort and only returned to sleep.
Food and drinks were decent, but the restaurant system was poorly managed. Despite the app showing availability until 9:30 PM, we were often turned away at 7:30 PM because restaurants were already full.
Customer service was disappointing. We requested a room with two beds before arrival and were repeatedly told it would be accommodated, but we only received the correct room on the third day after multiple follow-ups. Rooms also lacked basic amenities like toothpaste and lotion.
Overall, I would not recommend Hotel Riu Palace Pacifico for international guests."
"There were three of us and we reserved a room with two queen beds. The room was supposed to be ready at 3 o'clock. They didn't have a room for us until 3:30, and the room. They took us to had one king bed. So they took us to another room that had two full-size beds, and the air conditioner did not work. So we waited another 45 minutes for our third room which they told us was a premium room. It had a beautiful view as it was oceanfront, but it also had two full-size beds. Apparently they do not have queen size beds.
The food at the restaurants was mediocre. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.
The pool is quite large and has several places to sit in the water and relax which is nice. However, the bar is in the children's section of the pool. So the bar is surrounded by children. I suppose that's great if you have children, but mine are grown-up and I was not planning on spending my vacation with small children everywhere. It just seems like poor planning to have the pool bar in the children's section."
