"This is my second time staying at this hotel. I liked the room I stayed in better the first time, but I was still happy with the old world charm of this property. The breakfast is great and the staff are super friendly. My only complaint was my room was close to where bottles were being dumped into the bin, not a huge deal expect there were some nights that they would be dumping bottles multiple times well passed midnight which would wake me up with the loud crashing. "

"Received a warm welcome from the owners and staff at The River Don Tavern. Had a lovely meal, well cook with generous portions. Good size room with large bed, plenty of tea, coffee, chocolate and biscuits. Good breakfast supplied. Shower a bit dated, but clean with plenty of hot water. Spacious car park. Quiet farming village with safe walks for our dog. Enjoyed our stay. "

"I really liked the convenience of this property. Just 2 small gripes. There was no hairdryer there and although it had coffee and tea making facilities, there was no teaspoon. As I do not carry one and there was no staff to ask for one, this was disappointing. Otherwise good."

"Fabulous location opposite the end of the Shambles and within easy walking distance of all of York’s attractions. Only one vegetarian option on the menu and limited selection of cask ales. There was no room cleaning for the 3 nights we stayed there - toilet rolls and drink replenishment had to be asked for downstairs. Cups were cardboard ‘to-go’ variety and there was no hairdryer. TV reception was ‘dodgy’. We spent most of our time out and about so didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as...
