"We stayed in room 9. There were some strong points: the bed was comfy, the location was handy for the town centre, and the included breakfast was a highlight, with friendly service too. The fan and basic toiletries were also nice touches. But for the price, it didn’t feel like good value. The noise was a real problem, the creaking floorboards from the room above were so loud they kept both me and my wife (who is not a light sleeper) awake until the guest above stopped moving, and then woke us up again in the morning. Clearly the floorboards need fixing in the room above. The room wasn’t the cleanest, the shower knob was broken (I managed to fix it myself). While there were positives, the first job of a hotel is to provide a decent night's sleep and the noise issues made it hard to justify the cost. A few improvements would go a long way."

"The village is delightful and has a fascinating history well worth the visit. The hotel is full of character but is in need of a good deal of work if it is going to cater for tourists otherwise it will fall into disrepair and not be worth considering. Carpets need replacing, rooms need a thorough cleaning, woodwork, like doors and windows, are in need of attention & holes in the walls should be addressed. The lovely lady serving breakfast was welcoming and friendly and breakfast provided a great start to the day. We also had dinner there one night and the servings were generous. I understand that with old buildings it costs a lot to maintain but if left as it is I would not be returning to stay."

"Really dated and tierd but staff making best of what they have. We visited in a heatwave so perhaps not a true reflection but was stifling. No air con. A small broken (span but didnt move side to side)fan provided that pushed the warm air around and the next morning fans had been put in the corridor. Reception staff friendly and welcoming. Breakfast staff a bit abrupt but again perhaps the heat! We booked for a short stay and the surrounding countryside and shaftesbury Town are lovely. The hotel is situated on the main road although still quiet and lovely garden etc. Gpod location for the town etc Unfortunately the pool area is not nice. Changing rooms really dirty and the pool water really cloudy and murky- the main reason we chose the hotel was for the pool. All in all was fine for an overnight stay and room was clean. Just a bit old fashioned and dated for us and the pool area need some attention"
