Stay near Vietri Sul Mare

Vietri Sul Mare is both one of the most spectacular towns along the Amalfi Coast and the home of world-famous ceramics. Vietri is the first town you reach om a drive west from Salerno, and is also just under an hour’s walk from the city. Stay in Salerno to make use of transport links to the rest of the region and to explore the city’s historic centre.

If you’re looking for mid-range hotels with views of the Mediterranean, use Expedia to search for places to stay in Raito and Albori on the Strada Provinciale road, west of the town centre. And for budget-friendly hotel, look for accommodation in the town of Cava de Tirreni.

Vietri Sul Mare’s Spectacular Ceramics

Discover the time-honoured traditions of Vietri Sul Mare’s ceramics industry. After just a few minutes’ strolling through the town, you will find your first craftwork shop selling the delicate, brightly coloured ceramics. Hunt for a souvenir that comes straight from the artisans of the region, decorated with the distinctive, multi-coloured glazes that are typical of Vietri Sul Mare.

To find out more, visit Villa Guariglia to see Vietri Sul Mare’s Ceramics Museum, which charts the story of the craft in the town. Spend some time looking through the displays of local pottery from throughout the centuries. The gallery of wall and floor tiles has more than 300 different types of Vietri tiles on display.

Wander Vietri Sul Mare’s Historic Streets

On a wander around Vietri Sul Mare’s historic streets, head for the Church of St. John the Baptist, a Renaissance church building with a stunning dome covered in majolica tiles. Keep an eye out for the Crestarella, a 16th-century tower built on a rock as a coastal defence. You’ll pass palaces, watchtowers and small churches on your stroll, and enjoy a glass of wine or seafood meal before heading back to your hotel.
