Quiet with old world charm

Posted 31-Jan-2016
Quiet in a beautiful location, right on the waters edge, with lots of places to walk to- Oak Bay village is just blocks away. Potential for more crowds but feels like an unknown hideaway. Love the "Snug" and the views from the bug lounge. A little confusing as to how to access tea, drinks, food in the big lounge area (no menus or noticeable staff). Rooms lovely and well-appointed with turn-down service!

Wonderful anniversary getaway.

Posted 28-Jan-2016
We wanted a nice getaway for our anniversary and found the Oak Beach Hotel during their winter rate period. Everything was top notch. The room was beautiful and had a well stocked kitchenette with everything we might need including a dishwasher. The bathroom was great with a wonderful shower and deep soaking tub. The bed was very comfortable. We ate at both of the restaurants and the food was excellent. We definitely recommend this hotel and will be going back.

One of the best pools I've every been to.

Posted 18-Jan-2016
Cons: The coffee pot lid was broken and there was no corkscrew in the room. The dining facilities could be better
Incredible front-desk staff; amazing pool and spa facilities.

Stayed over for one night so we could celebrate a friend's 50th that was hosted at the hotel due to living more than an hour away. Room was great. SNUG meal was great - staff very attentive. Reception in the Grand Lobby was very nice - well catered. We will stay here again.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. The stay was very relaxing. The only problem happened one morning at 730 am with tile work construction which was very loud. The concierge manager Dylan gave us a complimentary night stay to fix it. Very happy. He was very accommodating. Love this place.

Rooms are nice but stay away from the restaurants.

Posted 03-Jan-2016
We found the rooms to be very comfortable, the location is amazing but the food and service in the 2 restaurants we visited was very disappointing. Our experience was that the service staff in the dining room were very rude and extremely unattentive. It took an incredibly long time to place an order and getting our food and drinks took even longer. No one came and checked on us during our meal, or refilled our coffee and every one of our meals was terrible. The slow service was the same in the coffee shop and given neither place was busy and they actually had quite a few people working we couldn't understand why the food and service was so bad. I think if we hadn't visited any of the restaurants we would have really enjoyed our stay.

On the ocean, the Oak Bay Beach Hotel is spectacular! Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful - apologetic when a mistake or inconvenience occurs. They had a little trouble with the eucalyptus steam room one day, but it was quickly fixed. Spa facilities are small but clean, as is the gender neutral steam sauna. The salt water pool and the two jacuzzi tubs are located on a rock outcropping in the ocean in front of the hotel. It is really lovely. Our room was large, clean, comfortable and well appointed. The "Snug" restaurant is just off the lobby, offering great food, service and views. The Expedia deal we had made this an affordable and relaxing stay: a huge room, free valet parking, free Wi-Fi and a nice galley style kitchen. All for $250 plus tax. The hotel took the time to acknowledge our Anniversary by delivering a small delicious gift. While the Oak Bay Beach is usually a bit too expensive for our budget, the Expedia deal made it possible. Keep you eyes open for the next affordable opportunity to stay in an excellent hotel!

Excellent staff and room amenities

Posted 29-Dec-2015
Pros: The rooms were furnished nicely, the heated floor tiles in bathroom was great. The manager was very understanding and cooperative on issue of booking.
Cons: The pool/Spa/Gym facility require a walk outside. Would be good if there is an internal connection or covered/closed walkway during winters.
Location: The marina is a nice walk. The Oak Bay downtown seems nice to walk through and of course there is Craigdarroch castle nearby. Nice drive on SW side.
We had some issue with booking through Expedia, where we expected a room with Kitchenette, but got one without, putting our plan to cook through Christmas eve in jeopardy. However the manager was really nice, she understood our issues and got a room with kitchen the next day. Also she provided room dining service free of cost to make up for the confusion. The pool is outside so you have to walk out to the Gym/Pool - not so encouraging on a cold day but am sure will be enjoyable in summers.
