Great little place in good location.
It is a great little place next to a restaurant and conveniently located near train station and ferry port. They were very friendly and helpful. They provide a good breakfast. The pillows were uncomfortable for me. But the room is spacious and has storage, TV, WiFi and a nice bathroom. I would go back.

Friendly & Charming
We just loved it. It's charming, old, small, family like, friendly... it's everything you expect from a small hotel in the heart of Venice; It's not perfect! But it has the real Venetian atmosphere. Oh and the pizzeria next door is superb.

Lovely time
Very friendly staff. An interesting old building in convenient location. Good AC which was very welcome! Rooms are small but that is part of the charm.

Bad service and extra charge
Receptionist was so mean and the room is really small. They have some hidden charge. Doesnt matter if u paid from any different website ,still they will ask mome for tax , cleaning fee. AC is not good. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great location
This hotel is very close to all main attractions in Venice. The rooms are small but they have private bathroom (small also), and is great for the price you pay to be in the island. Breakfast is Italian style. The staff was great very friendly, and helpful. We enjoyed the stay here

Despite have a confirmed reservation, the owner thought that we were arriving on another date and therefore locked the hotel door. We had to ask someone with a phone to help us call the owner to come back to help us check in. We waited in the cold rain for 30+ minutes outside the hotel. The owner also requested cash instead of accept credit card payment for the stay. We negotiated to give him the money the following morning since we did not want to go back out to the ATM in the rain. After the initial issues, the stay at the hotel was satisfactory. It is a great location and very close to the train terminal and the water-bus stop along the canal.

Nice Hotel close to everything
The hotel is a short 5 to 10 minute walk from the train station. The room we had was fairly roomy and the reservation came with a breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast could be better and service as well.The lady at the reception at the moment of departure showed some impatience because we did not speak and understand Italian. The shower did not have a soap holder. We have been in others 3 stars hotels in Europe and to us this a 2 stars hotel, not a 3.

Nice room. Normal hard Italian beds. Staff could use some work. At night the staff was outside smoking cigars and goodness forbid you need something. In the morning staff was down the street having café in their PJs. Be prepared to state a breakfast time and only be allowed to sit down once your whole party is up and ready. Coffee is absolutely rancid, go down the street. The dinner rolls for breakfast were good. Have café. Go down the hobbit hole (take a right out of the hotel, a left at the café shop and a right into the strange alleyway. Cross the water and sit to have some great café over looking a small waterway.

Terrible attitude and poor hotel
The owner have a terrible attitude! They need to focus on helping their guests as much as possible. They gave attitude to several guests. Not a pleasant place! Also the rooms were small and the breakfast extremely meager - a croissant and a drink was all. Avoid.

The hotel could use some updating. The owner is rather gruff but the girls who work there are lovely. One young woman went out of her way to help me. The ladies are very nice when they serve breakfast. Most of the other buildings on the street are boarded up and have graffiti on them. The air conditioning was excellent but the hotel is over priced for the condition.

A nice, small hotel - but too expensive. Our triple room was small, with a very small shower in the bathroom. We had to haul our luggage up a narrow stairway to get to our room, two floors above ground level. There is no elevator. The included breakfast was fine. Location is good - a quick walk to the train station and even closer to a water bus stop. The daytime staff speak descent English, but not the staff in the evenings.

A very good place close to the railway station
Good location, if you want to be close to the railway station. Quiet neighbourhood, but at the same time there are some places with good food around. The family room was with a bathroom and an antechamber with a sink, which brought more convenience. Staff is polite and helpful. One problem was the leaking shower cell. No Wi-Fi in the room, only at the reception (free of charge).

Very nice people working at the hotel, nice place and all very clean but it is difficult to come up 2 or 3 floors with all our bags and also it is not that well located. Perfect place if you travel light and don't mind paying for transportation to the main tourist attractions

3 stars is pushing it .... consider other hotels
Hotel location was the main reason we booked it. But it ends there. No true lobby. Tiny closet-sized breakfast room with unfriendly server will serve you 1 croissant and coffee while reminding you not to use the air conditioning even when its sweltering hot - even though she is sweating profusely herself. We switched to a 4 star hotel which made tonnes of difference. Do yourself a favor and spend a bit more - yes I know Venice is expensive but 1 extra star really helps here.

Crooked employees
Owners were nice. However, when they were not around, an employee was rude about meal preparations, and demanded that I pay the hotel bill in CASH. She demanded that I use the ATM "down the street." I refused. When I checked out, was glad to see that owners were back. They never raised the issue of cash, and gladly accepted my card. They need to know about their employee. One has to wonder whether I would have had to pay twice--that my cash would have disappeared, and I'd still be required to pay for my hotel stay. In any event, there are two bills associated with this one hotel that I will now have to straighten out--first with the hotel and then with my card carrier if no remedy is provided by the hotel. They charged me for the night I called and made the reservations. I did not stay that night, I only reserved for the next two nights. Also, the one-night charge is in an amount greater than the nightly hotel stay. I'm in Italy for six weeks. I hope my stay at other hotels goes more smoothly here on out.

Venice is an expensive city to stay. This hotel seemed pricey even in light of that. My wife and I were here for two nights and we're not uncomfortable. It just wasn't a hotel I would choose to stay in again unless it was drastically cheaper.

If you're coming from America you're in for a bit of a culture shock when it comes to service in Europe. Even the simplest thing like a greeting and a smile is sometimes absent here. However, not at Hotel Alberto Doge where I got 5 star hotel sevice at a bed and breakfast setting. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would argue it might be the most bang for your buck at an otherwise pretty pricey city.

Family vacation
We booked a four person room and it ended up being an apartment across the street from the hotel. The hotel staff had a key to the apartment and entered early every morning (loudly waking us up multiple times) to prepare the breakfast for all the hotels. They're answer to this was we could lock the individual bedroom doors (the bathroom was outside the bedrooms). The rooms were small and not very well kept, but that is to be expected in Venice. The only positive was that the hotel was well located with many attractions near by.

I stayed here for one night for il Redentore after staying 6 weeks in Venice for a study abroad program. I chose it based on it's location, a short walk to Ferrovia and Piazzale Roma and also right near a vaporetto stop, because the next day I had to make it to Marco Polo for a flight. My single room was small, but clean, except when I closed the window and turned on the AC (what a godsend) my room started to smell musty, which I also noticed in the breakfast room. The service was good but there was definitely conflicting information: (1) I wasn't told that breakfast was served in a specific room, and the poster on the door in my own room seemed to suggest it was brought to you at the time I'd specified at check in, and (2) when I ran out quickly to get something before checking out the receptionist asked me if I could pay in cash, to which I countered "well, can't I pay with card?" She said cash was preferred, which I understand, but as I was about to leave for the airport I didn't really have the time or energy to run to the specific bank I'm supposed to use abroad, and the credit card machine then didn't function. If that's a common problem the hotel needs to tell customers, and also inform them to pay in cash when they're checking in, not out.

Location was great
This was not the type of hotel we are used to. The lobby was only about 6 feet wide and it was across the alley from where we stayed. It was a strange set up. The hotel staff had to come in to our living area in the morning while we were still sleeping to access the kitchen. The bed was not very comfortable but we were exhausted so we slept fine. The bathroom had major issues. There was no way to shower without causing puddles of water everywhere, and one of the sinks had draining issues. The neighborhood was great and it was only a short walk to the train station. There were also signs to follow to bring you right to the hotel. The staff was very kind. Overall it was fine, just not top notch. We would consider staying there again.

Mold Mildew Miserable
I am conditioned to travelling in Europe. This hotel room was booked for my parents whoe immediately had runny eyes, nose, headaches and nausea. There was significant mold in the room and mildew in the shower. They checked out after 1 night of a 3 night stay. The hotel refused to refund the money (it was a non-refundable rate) for the nights not used even though there was significant circumstances (illness caused by hotel). The hotel room was not clean, and was damp. The location is near the train station, close to sights, very convenient. The rooms felt smaller than they look in the pictures. We would NOT reccomend this hotel. The host was not pleasant.

Do not use American Express!
Overall stay was good, but we didn't get hot water the first day so they had to change the room for us. Also, the staff kept telling us that we hadn't paid, but we had already paid with our American Express card and the transaction was posted on our statement as well. No one was ready to listen to us and they made us pay again at checkout. Another thing, during checkin the lady at reception told us city tax will be 8 euros. At checkout another lady charged us 12 euros and was not ready to listen that we were told it was 8 euros. Intimidating staff!

I was a bit claustrophobic in the small space, but the window could be opened to let in lots of air. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and I felt safe at that site as a woman traveling alone. The carpets need a good cleaning but the other areas were quite clean. Good value for the money and for Venice!!

Venice is an expensive place to stay and travelling on business on a budget I found this little hotel for a short stay. It looked good on the web, but I was a bit disappointed when I got there. The receptionist when I arrived spoke no English at all (though I shouldnt really complain - I was in Italy after all). A second receptionist (? the owner) was in attendance later however, and she spoke good English. It is a small place with steep stairs and is a bit dark and gloomy. The room was in need of redecoration, but it was a good size and the bathroom was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable enough and I slept fine. It was not ideal for a business trip as the WiFi wasnt accessible in the room, but it was there in the "bar" - which was really a 2-seater table on the landing and if you sat on the stairs. I coped fine once I had worked out where the good signal was... Breakfast was a bit inconvenient as you had to pre-book a time and so if you woke up early with jet-lag (as I did) you couldn't change your plans and get an early coffee... The food offered at Breakfast was minimal...

An okay hotel
We were glad that we were on the first level just had to go up one small flight of stairs carrying our suitcases. There was no breakfast available. Majority of the staff cannot speak English but that's okay they made every effort to attempt to communicate with us and we had a good idea what they were saying After all we were guests in their culture and we should have learned their language. Air-conditioning in room worked very well ... room needs a few upgrades such as the shower had rust in corners and edges.
