Mallorca Island Attractions

One of the most beautiful islands in the Med, Mallorca has a stunning coast, a breathtaking interior, a smattering of vibrant towns and cities and a wealth of characterful mountain villages. Hike, bike or ride through the island’s hills and valleys, swim, dive and snorkel along its rugged coast or dance the night away in one of its lively nightspots. A variety of historic landmarks can be found in Palma de Mallorca, with the island’s capital also offering good shopping, great restaurants and a choice of cultural attractions.

Areas & Neighbourhoods on Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca – With its ornate cathedral, 14th century castle and historic centre, Palma de Mallorca is the best place on the island for sightseeing and culture. The capital is also home to a great choice of clubs and shopping areas.

Platja de Muro – One of the most beautiful beaches on Mallorca Island, Platja de Muro boasts soft sand, turquoise waters and an idyllic sand dune and pine tree backdrop. Head to this stunning spot for a day of sun, sea and stunning views.

Magaluf – Mallorca’s party capital, Magaluf is a mecca for young revellers from northern Europe. Party the night, or day, away at one of the resort’s many bars and clubs, relax on Magaluf’s expansive beach or get your adrenaline pumping with a banana boat ride across the bay.

Pollença – With its stone houses, lively café terraces and pretty setting, Pollença is one of the most characterful towns on Mallorca Island. Pollença’s backstreets are lined with boutiques and galleries, making it a great destination for anyone who wants to explore the local culture and see a more traditional side of Mallorca.

Things to See on Mallorca

No sightseeing tour of the island would be complete without a trip to Palma’s enormous Gothic cathedral. Built between 1229 and 1601, with further updates by Gaudi in the early 20th century, the cathedral is a must see during your time on Mallorca. The 14th century Bellver castle is another of Mallorca’s unmissable sights. Offering panoramic views of the city, the castle is a great place to get your bearings when you arrive on the island. Mallorca’s most famous natural sight is the Cuevas del Drach, four colossal interconnected underground caves that demand intrepid exploration.

Things to Do on Mallorca

If you head for the resorts along the island’s coast you can discover secluded coves, expansive beaches, snorkelling, swimming, sailing and diving. In Magaluf or Palma there is great nightlife to be found whereas out in Pollença the emphasis is on more considered pleasures granted by its traditional charm. For trekking, cycling and running it’s the Serra de Tramuntana that beckons: this beautiful mountain range runs from southwest to northeast Mallorca. The island is very popular with serious road cyclist and you’ll find a number of challenging, but picturesque routes across Mallorca. Golfers will find an excellent choice of courses, while bird watchers should head to the s'Albufera salt marsh and pick a quiet spot for guaranteed twitching heaven.
