"Quirky old hotel with comfortable rooms and excellent staff"

"The property is located on a site which includes a hotel and a group of small private homes. None of which is a negative. The area is very quiet, but you definitely need a car. The surrounding area is sensationally beautiful and well worth a visit and we enjoyed our trips out very much. The property itself was disappointing. It looked good on paper, but the moment we opened the front door, it was smelly. The smell was a continual issue. Every time we returned from a trip, it was as though the place had been left unattended for a few weeks. There was a raised area of flooring which seemed to me to be an issue as well. Is this where it came from? We had to open all the windows each time we got back. On the third day of our 5 night stay, we returned and the it smelt strongly of (I assume) sewerage chemicals. Opening windows cleared it, but it was the final straw so we decided to cut our losses and return home. I had a couple of other gripes, but none would have been enough to cause us to go home early. The smell is the main complaint - an air freshener would not have sorted it. All the correspondence I’d had, was from Sykes Cottages, I tried to contact them on their What’s App, as I wanted to let them know. I had no response - not until days after we were home. I asked them for a refund on the final two nights. I’ve still yet to hear about this, but Expedia, although, were helpful but were not able to get this from them either it seems. Not happy."

"Lovely quiet B&B with on-site parking. Short drive to nearby attractions or walk to beach. Quiet and comfortable rooms, recently decorated and totally unmarked, almost as if we were the first to use the room. Excellent breakfast and lovely friendly staff. Would definitely use again"

"What a lovely place to stay. Staff very helpful and friendly. Sea view room was amazing and welcoming with a few little extras and the food in the restaurant was great too. Have already booked to go again. "

"It’s as lovely as it looks. Our children were like wood nymphs l, galloping around in the bluebells, while we had all our meals in the garden. Light and nature pours in through every window. Beautiful. "

"Very lovely cottage. Safe and secure parking at the back. Located on the main road, but well insulated with double glazing from road noise. A short walk to local grocery shop (had fresh fruit and vegetables, and bacon and sausages from a local butcher), cafe, and 2 pubs, plus a great general store (Morgans) which was a life saver when we ran out of calpol and the local pharmacy was closed! All facilities available to make food at home, and i easily managed a home cooked easter sunday roast with fish bought from a visit to Lyme Regis a 9min drive away. Internet was very slow, but worked, saying this i had 5G phone signal throughout the cottage and switched to this when i needed. We visited Charmouth beach daily, (10-15min walk) and came back for lunch and dinner at home or in town as the offerings on the beach were very basic. Beds are memory foam and comfortable. Main bedroom is spacious with a generous sized bathroom (no baths). House is warm and was great to come back to from the colder rainier days we had. Very enjoyable stay would recommend to all. Will very likely visit again."
