The Berkshire town of Slough lies along the banks of the Jubilee River, a tributary of the Thames, just 20 miles or so west of London. It's home to an intriguing mix of attractions, a bustling high street and the Slough Trading Estate, the largest industrial estate in Europe. If you come to stay in a Slough bed and breakfast, you'll also be just a stone's throw from Eton College, one of the most prestigious schools in the world; the pretty town of Windsor, which is home to the eponymous royal castle; and the sprawling Colne Valley Regional Park. If you're looking for a last-minute weekend break away from the capital, and don't want to travel too far, Slough might be just the ticket.
If you're sold on a weekend break, you can't do better than booking a room in a Slough bed and breakfast. You could opt for one of the hotels, but nothing beats the homely atmosphere and the friendly hosts at the B&Bs. Some have been running their properties for years and have mastered the art of homely hospitality. Plus, they're usually considerably less expensive, leaving you plenty of extra cash to spend on the restaurants and attractions in Slough. You've got plenty to choose from, too. Some are detached family homes, surrounded by private gardens and with just a handful of guestrooms. Others are housed in old farmhouses in the surrounding countryside. You can even pick up a bargain at one of the budget-friendly properties. Whichever you decide on, you can always score the right place for you on Expedia, which lists every property, along with detailed descriptions and photos. All you need to do is plug in your dates, budget and location, scan through the listings and book in just a few clicks. Arranging your travel just got a whole lot easier. You're always guaranteed a comfortable stay when you book your accommodation through Expedia.
You'll be pleasantly surprised by the comfortable guestrooms, which often come equipped with everything you might find in a hotel, like a kettle for making hot drinks, a flat-screen TV on the wall and complimentary WiFi, which you can use to research your break. It doesn't matter whether you're coming on a break with your partner or bringing the kids, you won't have any trouble finding double or family-sized rooms on Expedia. What makes the difference with bed and breakfasts in Slough are those little touches – the time the owners spend with you to help plan your trip or a vase of freshly cut flowers waiting in your room when you arrive. Come daybreak, you can enjoy a traditional breakfast in the dining room, washed down with plenty of tea and coffee – the perfect start to an attraction-fuelled day. If Slough doesn't sound like it's for you, consider trying a few nights in the ever-trendy capital, and explore the many things to do in London, instead.
If you've come to stay in a Slough bed and breakfast to go shopping, you've come to the right place. The Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre teems with more than 120 stores, which is enough to satisfy even the pickiest of shoppers. Afterwards, you could go walking in Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens, a landscaped park designed by Edward White in the 1930s. If you want to discover the town's history, you can't do better than a visit to Slough Museum, which has several permanent exhibitions and galleries. Alternatively, if you've brought the kids, you can't miss Slough Ice Arena, which has all sorts of chilly activities on offer, from ice hockey to disco skating. While you're in the area, a visit to the nearby town of Windsor is a must, particularly the magnificent Windsor Castle.
