Great location!

Posted 16-Oct-2017
The staff were great and the location is unbeatable, nearby Union Square. The hotel lobby needs some renovations because looks outdated but the rooms are comfortable and clean.

Not what I was expecting

Posted 22-Sep-2017
Pros: Close to Union Square, lots of shopping, dining, bistros, Streetcar (trolley) just around the corner, and a Walgreen across the street.
Cons: Finish the update in hallways and elevator. Make more inviting not so scary. Add in-room safe and vents in bathroom. Add central air and heating.
Location: The trolley ride begins at UnionSquare and ends a few blocks from Fisherman's Warf.
Since this is a Best Western Premier Collection Hotel, I really expected more. The room was totally renovated and up to date. Nice bedding, headboard, wall mounted TV, ceiling fan, wood floors, shower tiles, a desk and even a small couch in the corner. In the closet was a large lighted mirror (pretty cool). The A/C was a window unit, not central air. The room was missing an in-room safe and the bathroom did not have a vent. The bathroom was very small. When I arrived the first day I found the small window, located in the bathroom, open to the outside. I closed and locked it right away. After my return, the second day, again, I found the shower window open. I figured out this is the ventilation process for the bathroom. The hallways and the elevator were very dark and gloomy in need of reno/updating just as the rooms have had. The lobby and coffee areas were a great place to sit and wait for the tour bus to pick up.

Noisy

Posted 17-Sep-2017
Everything is great except it's too noisy. Regardless what time of day you try to rest. It's super noisy, they could benefit from some sound proof windows. Otherwise the hotel staff, service and everything else is amazing. It's in a prime location. Right around the corner from union square. Walgreens and 7/11 are right across the street. I would highly recommend it.

Hello Ani, Thank you so much for the feedback. We apologize for the noise during your stay. Sutter St can get a little noisy during the day since we are right in the heart of San Francisco. I am glad you enjoyed the rest of your stay.

Loud air conditioner

Posted 09-Sep-2017
The hotel has been refurbished but somehow the room air conditioner got missed! Very loud, and in a small room too! For this price I would choose a different hotel.

Pleasant hotel near tourist attractions.

Posted 25-Aug-2017
Pros: Staff was very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. We appreciated the staff's efforts to provide a room in a quiet part of the building.
Cons: Perhaps fresh fruit or a few pastries along with the coffee and tea offerings in the snack area in the mornings.
Location: Conveniently located for walking to Fisherman's Wharf, Cable Cars, etc.
We had very enjoyable hotel stay at the Cartwright. It is situated near or within easy access of many tourist attractions. Hotel staff was professional, helpful and enjoyable to talk to.

Clean and quiet downtown hotel

Posted 23-Aug-2017
Pros: Loved that it was in a central location in Union Square. It was easy to walk to everything and had a cable car stop 1/2 a block away.
Cons: The bathroom is tiny but adequate. Your knees nearly touch the sink when you sit down to do your business. You have to squeeze into the shower.
Location: We walked to restaurants, Chinatown and the Ferry building around San Fran. The concierge had great recommendations for restaurants that we enjoyed.
I am a light sleeper and asked for a quiet room. We were given a room at the end of the hallway. It was quiet and clean. The bathroom is tiny and so is the room but that is to be expected in a downtown location. The room was clean and had been recently remodeled and had a modern feel to it. Would stay there again!

Great location, comfortable, and private.

Posted 08-Aug-2017
Pros: Comfortable beds, clean, well-appointed rooms.
Cons: While I had my own issues with the wrong room type, I also saw other guests have trouble with their reservations. The line was often long.
Location: The location was great, on a bus line, walking distance from BART and Union Square, and on a streetcar line as well. The diner next door was good for
We had a mishap upon checking in. Although our reservation was for a king (my daughter and I planned to share a bed) we were checked into a queen room, which the desk agent tried to upsell by telling us it was in the back and very quiet. He didn't mention that it was a queen, however. The room was quiet and in the back, but for a three-night stay, I was concerned about the size of the bed. I checked the photos online, and it became clear that he'd booked us in the wrong room type. When we went back down to mention the incorrect bed, lo and behold, a King room was available. Unfortunately it was directly across the hall from an elevator and faced the busy street front. So much for the quiet and private room. That switch felt a little punitive, especially since he had just booked us in the wrong room and talked so much about how great it was. Despite the room's location, we were pleased with it and the comfort of the bed. With this being a small hotel, there was minimal noise from the inside. Outside of construction of scaffolding next door at 0600 Monday morning, the street noise was not bothersome. The room was very clean and well appointed. We appreciated the multiple ports available to charge electronics. The location was great, on a bus line, walking distance from BART and Union Square, and on a streetcar line as well. The diner next door was good for an easy meal, and the pharmacy and 7-11 nearby were handy.
