Hotel Stratford

Posted 08-Aug-2017
Pros: The cleanliness
Cons: The continental breakfast was below average.
Location: It was in a high end shopping district, close to Chinatown, but too far away from Fisherman's Wharf.
The staff was very friendly and the premises were exceptionally clean. It was close to the downtown area, but a lengthy walk to the wharf.

Hotel Stratford

The locations couldn't be more perfect. The trolley stop is right in front and Greyline tours is right around the corner. There's lots of good places to eat within walking distance. Tads steak house is down the street about two blocks and that place is awesome and reasonable.

Older style hotel in great location.

Posted 17-Jul-2017
We hd an excellent stay at the Stratford. The hotel is perfectly located to take advantage of all nearby tourist attractions. We had a really quiet room at the back which was great eventhough somewhat small however it is an older hotel so one must expect that. Staff were really knowledgeable and helpful and the continental breakfast was a good start to the day. Would recommend this hotel to first time visitors to San Francisco.

Centrally located.

Posted 16-Jul-2017
Pros: Helpful staff, good location.
Cons: Room safe, air con. Bigger rooms but that would mean a lot of investment which would be reflected in the prices.
Location: Good. Union square, China town. Short distance to the Embarcadero.
Clean, comfortable hotel very close to Union square. Easy walking distance to the cable car & good shopping experiences. Room was a little too small with no air con & no room safe but you don't go to San Fran to sit in your room all day. Very quiet so no problems with sleeping & the staff were very helpful with maps, directions help with shuttle bookings & airport transfers. Close to the Bart transfer station on Powell Street so getting the Bart from S/F international airport is easy.

Great location, friendly staff

Close to shopping, Chinatown, bus tours, and public transportation, including the Cable Car. Lots of restaurants near by, too. Excellent, helpful, and friendly staff. Free breakfast in tea room. Rooms are a little well worn, but excellent value for location.

Reasonable hotel

Posted 10-Jul-2017
Pros: Affordable and a good location if you need to be near Union Square.
Cons: Breakfast facilities
Location: Reasonable location for shopping and theaters
The room is reasonable for the cost, but the location is terrible. Powell Street is a cable car route and this adds to the noise. This also means it is difficult to find parking to load/unload luggage. The hotel has no air conditioning - only a ceiling fan, which makes it very uncomfortable in summer. The "tea room" is only barely acceptable for breakfast. The front desk staff is friendly enough, but I found the rest of the staff rather surly. If you need to drive, there is enough parking nearby, but very expensive (typically $36 per day).

Hotel in great location

Posted 05-Jul-2017
Pros: The best thing is that this hotel is right in the heart of downtown San Francisco, close to restaurants, shops, transport.
Cons: The breakfast is very poor and not worth attending. I'd rather breakfast was not given and the room rates made cheaper.
Location: Easy walk to the main cable car line, buses, streetcars, major shops, department stores and the Museum of Modern Art. Union Square is a minute away.
The hotel is perfectly located, close to everything you need. Just outside the hotel there are restaurants, a 24-hr drugstore, department stores etc. You can easily get public transport to Fisherman's Wharf, The Castro, Golden Gate Bridge etc. The tourist information centre is also nearby. The hotel rooms are small, but that's OK as you don't need to spend a lot of time in a hotel room. I had a view of a wall which wasn't very nice. The room was quiet and clean, which was good. Other rooms would look over Powell Street, which is noisy. There is no air-conditioning, but there is a ceiling fan. Wi-fi was easy to connect to and worked well. The room has plenty of towels and hand towels. Soap and shampoo are provided. The elevator/lift is small and travels very slowly. If in a hurry, use the stairs. The staff were friendly and helpful. Free newspapers available in the lobby. The free breakfast is very poor - tea/coffee, a few cereals, bread and a bowl of one type of fruit (on one day there was a bowl of cut up oranges) is all that is available. Not worth getting up for. The breakfast room is also very small. It's only 30 minutes by shuttle bus to the airport.

Great location!

Posted 29-Jun-2017
Pros: Location, convenience and staff
Cons: Rooms need repainting
Location: Right on Powell St and Cable Car line
While it is an older hotel, without a great deal of amenities, the location can't be beat and the price was very good given the location. Staff were very friendly and helpful
