Located in the eastern part of San Jose, in Santa Clara County, California, Reid Hillview Airport is a general aviation airport, with flights ranging from corporate business jets to gliders. The airport has two runways and acts as a reliever airport for larger local airports when they reach capacity.
Inside the terminal building at Reid Hillman Airport, travellers can find vending machines, waiting lounges and restrooms/toilets.
The easiest way to reach Reid Hillview is to drive. Car rental can be found next to the Airport Shoppe. Short-term parking is available free of charge, while overnight parking requires a permit and incurs a nightly fee. Taxis don't operate from the airport, but you can call one of several local cab services to pick you up.
There are several options for accommodation near Reid Hillview Airport, mostly cheap motels and mid-range chain hotels in San Jose. If you're seeking high-end accommodation, look west towards the Silicon Valley areas of Mountain View and Palo Alto, where you’ll find a number of four and five-star hotels and apartments, including historic city hotels and exclusive resorts in the California countryside.
Tech capital San Jose is California's third largest city and is crammed full of cultural attractions, including San Jose Museum of Art and The Tech Museum of Innovation, where technology is brought to life via a series of interactive exhibits, including robots and displays about alternative energy. Don't miss Silicon Valley's oddest attraction, Winchester Mystery House, a 160-room mansion that was built by Sarah Winchester, an affluent heiress who had been told by a medium that the spirits of all the people killed by Winchester firearms would haunt her forever unless she built a house to match their wishes. Expect doors that open onto blank walls and a stairway that leads into a ceiling. If you've got cash to splash, Silicon Valley's thriving economy means there's no shortage of luxury shops and fine dining restaurants.
A one-hour drive from Reid Hillview will bring you to the edges of cosmopolitan San Francisco, famous for its classic cable cars, gorgeous waterfront and Golden Gate Bridge. A top foodie destination, San Francisco offers hungry visitors a range of tempting eating establishments, from Michelin-starred restaurants to food trucks. A short ferry ride from San Francisco is prison museum Alcatraz, where Al “Scarface” Capone was locked up. North of San Francisco are world-famous wine regions Napa and Sonoma, where you'll find an abundance of tasting rooms, cute towns and luxurious places to stay.
Beyond San Jose are the dreamy beaches, waterfront towns and famous wine regions, including Napa and Sonoma, that make up the San Francisco Bay Area. Further south is California's Central Coast, characterised by pretty coastal towns, including Carmel-by-the-Sea, charming Santa Barbara and historic Monterey.
Monterey merits exploration for the world-class Monterey Bay Aquarium that teems with everything from sunfish to sea otters, hammerhead sharks to green sea turtles. Visitors to the city can also arrange whale-watching trips from Fisherman's Wharf.
