I would rather stay at a thruway motel

After booking our hotel/flight package we were extremely excited. A quick extended-weekend getaway totalling 4 nights and 5 days. We arrived to beautiful punta cana friday 10/13/17 around 1:30pm, this is where the lovely trip ends and the disaster begins. The hotel doesn't offer any direct shuttle service, so we were forced to set one up third party. After contacting expedia numerous times to set transportation up/entering my flight information in on their online website I came up with ZERO answers. Strike 1. We then arrived to the Riu "Palace," Macao, a glorified holiday inn. We had no idea prior to arriving that it would be dirty, way outdated, and overall mediocre(being generous,) because expedia glorifies the hotel for whatever reason. Our initial room we were checked in to had a few pubic hairs on the blanket, disgusting and dirty pieces of furniture including the mini bar. We requested to be moved, the front desk gave us a new key. We were moved to the same disgusting, horrific, POOR, room we were in, however we were moved up one floor( so frustrated at this point I had to chuckle a bit.) The poor excuse of a hotel then suggested I call expedia for help, because the hotel could no longer help us(second opportunity for a LAUGH, what a JOKE!!!!!) I contacted expedia on MY DIME INTERNATIONAL @.20cents per minute for over 60 minutes, dealing with Abraham, a quote un quote supervisor,(third, but not final opportunity to laugh.) We got NOWHERE!

Riu Palace Macao probably oldest from five Riu hotels in Punta Cana. Location, food and staff good. Rooms clean but old and smelly.

The hotel is very nice, staff is very accommodating. Close to the beach. It's one of the small resorts but can't beat Adults only. The food is good but can get a bit monotonous. I am a picky eater thou. The air conditioning wasn't great. Overall I enjoyed the week we were there.

Great hotel. Close to the beach. Friendly staff and excellent service. Good food and good entertainment every night. We enjoyed our stay in Riu Palace Macao.

Definitely a different hotel

I will never go back to Punta Cana, the hotel experience was okay very boring not many activities within the hotel and outside activities, be careful what you purchase. We bought a $400 deep sea fishing trip that was a complete waste we literally sat back and watched. No one on board was able to fish. The food at the hotel was horrible, My face broke out everyday due to the terrible food. The only good restaurant was the steak house other than that HORRIBLE! The room I originally booked was unavailable when I arrived then I had to pay an extra $50 per night for a better room. Most rooms do not have a view. The liquor selection, well there's no selection, very cheap alcohol. Also they only have one red wine and one white wine through out the resort. The worst trip I've had thus far unfortunately.

Disappointing, would not recommend

Pros: Not enough - the pool was very small but nice. Ample places to lounge.
Cons: Everything. Rooms were musty, no Air Conditioning. Ice was out of service. Beaches were disgusting. Offer mixed drinks at restaurants, etc.
Location: We only left the resort one time. Surrounding area is not good, so I would stay on the resort.
There are a few redeeming qualities to this resort - but overall experience was disappointing. Beach: there is a MASS amount of seaweed on the beaches and in the water, we saw men driving with rakes but no one ever cleaned the area. There are people who harass you every few minutes to buy items (not affiliated to the resort) as well as people from companies trying to sign you up for excursions. It's frustrating and not possible to relax when you're being bothered every few minutes. Facility: This is sold as Adult Only, but there were multiple times where I saw children on the resort grounds. Rooms: Air Conditioning was not working. Took the staff 2 days to come and change the filter which resolved the problem - but two whole days? Also, the ice machine didn't work. When reported to the staff they said it would be fixed immediately, and took over 3 hours (and another call) to have someone address the issue. Also, beware if you use the balcony. A maid came in for turn-down service and LOCKED us on the balcony! We had a terrible time getting help, and when we were let back into the room, there wasn't any apology or anything from the employee. Restaurants: The buffet is a great option, especially when the restaurant do not serve mixed drinks (seriously, only beer/wine). When coming to an all-inclusive I would expect to be able to order whatever I want, and not be limited, or at least told what's not actually included. I could go on, buyer beware, I wasted so much $ here

no air conditioning

Pros: food
Cons: Best air conditioning in all rooms as they sell the hotel as 5 stars when it is not.
We stayed the first two night with no air conditioning in the suite,. My husband visited other suite rooms and they were in the same condition. The second night, we spent over 3 hours talking via telephone with expedia and they never solved anything, they also did not value me being pregnant. On the third day the hotel offered us to move us to riu bavaro. We are not happy because the hotel where we booked was not what we were sold and that's the fault of expedia.

Air Conditioning problem!!!

The hotel is beautiful, the staff is very attentive and friendly. The pools are clean and the beach is close. My biggest complaint...the air conditioner. The hotel has problems with the air conditioners in the rooms making it uncomfortable to sleep. The lobby, restaurants and bar area are all open with only ceiling fans to keep you cool. Would have also enjoyed a bigger selection of typical dominican/criollo food, it was mostly all american dishes. If you don't mind the heat, this is the place for you!

12th time there

Pros: The people
Cons: bring back smoking at bars.
Location: we like going to Hard Rock casino
we have loved this resort. We have kept coming back yearly. But, they have remodeled a couple years ago. And recently built more large buildings where we used to look out at palm trees and flowers etc. Now a lot of the visual appeal is gone. The experience could be any where. We miss the old tropical look. Plus the bars are now no smoking. I'm sure a lot of people prefer this, not us. I enjoyed a local cigar with my drink. have a lot of good memories there.
