Pocket Guide: Oslo

Hotels @ Oslo

If you want to consider yourself a true world traveller you first have to tick Oslo off the list – a city of legends and beauty. Norway’s capital contains centuries of history and cultural gems and is also considered one of Europe’s most important economic hubs. Admire the pristine, ornate architecture and immaculate streets, and then remember that the city’s origins can be traced back to ancient Viking days. Fortunately, with Expedia tracking down the best hotel deals, Oslo doesn’t have to feel like an epic Viking voyage. Use the site to book great rates at top hotels.

Hotels in Downtown Oslo

Oslo’s centre consists of two parts; the historic Old Town (Gamlebyen) and the modern New Town. In the Old Town you can take lovely walks along the harbour, visit the grant Akershus Fortress and find ruins dating all the way back to the Middle Ages. In the modern part of town you’ll find attractions like the Karl Johans Gate, Oslo’s ‘main street’. You’ll find everything lining this long street, with a ton of shops big and small, restaurants and entertainment venues, bar and pubs to choose from.

The centre has about 30 hotels, which is more than any other area in the city. This includes several hotels with free WiFi and environmentally friendly hotels. You can also choose between a number of four star luxury properties with pools, spas and delectable restaurants.

Hotels in Grünerløkka

Grünerløkka was for a long time the home of Norwegian workers, but has recently gone through something of a gentrification and is now known as a trendy place that is bursting with creativity and artistry. Check out the area’s various galleries, bars, clubs and venues and get to grips with Oslo’s cutting edge culture.

The hotel supply in Grünerløkka is not particularly large, only comprising around 5 hotels at present. These include several guest apartments with laundry services and free WiFi.

Hotels in Holmenkollen

Holmenkollen is around 10 kilometres from Oslo’s downtown area and, with its huge designer ski jump, is great for those looking to get active during their stay. Although the structure is intended primarily for ski races, you can climb to the top of the ramp and use the zip line or abseil down. Recommended!

The hotel supply in Holmenkollen is limited and mainly comprises four star hotels with all the mod cons.

Hotels in Majorstua

Majorstua is a very nice neighbourhood with top galleries and exclusive shops, especially around Bogstadveien Street. The biggest attraction is the Vigeland Sculpture Park, a vast natural area with more than 200 statues.

Regarding hotels, there aren’t a great many options around here, though you can choose from a few three star hotels with restaurants and free WiFi.

Hotels in Skillebekk

Skillebekk is an exclusive neighbourhood where you’ll sleep amidst imposing mansions, embassies and close to the popular shopping and entertainment centre, Aker Brygge. As with in Majorstua, the supply of hotels in Skillebekk is limited, but there are a number of business hotels with conference halls, and a large-scale luxury hotel with spa facilities.
