4.2/5 Very Good! (46 reviews)
Up on Seaham beach for the weekend so really only looking for an overnight base as up early on the 2 mornings were were around. Family room was clean and spacious enough, beds comfortable. The macerator loo was quite noisy, and you'll hear the ones in adjacent rooms too if guests are staying. Our room's radiator was permanently on despite us turning it to off, which made the room very warm in May so we had to open the window all night - not too eco-friendly I'm afraid. Helped dry out a few beach clothes though, on the upside!
No food is served here so if you need breakfast for the kids then bring your own, or head to the local co-op. A good Marstons restaurant is down the road at Dalton Park.
We arrived on Friday evening and there was a live band in full swing. Fair enough, it's a pub after all but the family room is directly above the bar and music area so if you've got young kids who you want to settle early beware. The music ended at 10:30 which was fine, but of course the bar noise continues until throwing out time and then - as the window was open to counteract the permanently on radiator - you get all the noise of people leaving, shouting goodbyes and/or arguing until well after midnight.
All that said, it wasn't a bad experience at all and for a budget hotel it holds its own well. Staff were very helpful, as were the customers actually when we failed to find reception on arrival!
We'd stay again, although would probably look for alternatives first.
